High-end moisturising cream (not serum) for dry frizzy hair?

Can anyone recommend a mosturising/hydrating cream for dry hair that's prone to frizziness at the ends? I would like something that is applied to dry (rather than wet) hair to make it look smooth and "piece-y". I don't get on with serums, and some of the creams and oils I've tried (including morrocanoil and the usual frizz-ease) work for around 5-10 minutes - until they dry, I guess, and then I'm left with the dried-out straw hair again!

I don't use any heat on my hair any more, I do already use a leave-in conditioner and at-home conditioning treatments and so on. The condition is improving dramatically at the roots where it's growing out healthily, but the dry/damaged ends are annoying. It's a tale of two hair types until it's grown out!

I want something ideally that will properly moisturise my hair as well as disguise it (although disguise is my first wish! Grin)

Prepared to spend ££ and have probably exhausted all the usual supermarket/Boots stuff, so I'm looking at the higher end brands (Bumble, Percy and Reed, L'oreal professional, Aveda, Kerastase etc at a guess?), but then recommendations would be good as I don't want to make too many expensive mistakes! No Tigi though - I have never got on with any of their products, I don't know why, my hair just doesn't seem to like it.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Have you tried Color Wow’s one minute transformation before? Have copied link from their website but I prefer to buy from FeelUnique or Lookfantastic. Plenty of reviews on either of those two sites also.

its not exactly high end but this one from lush works for me x

HaveYouNamechangedForThis · 29/01/2019 17:05

Thank you, they both look amazing suggestions and both brands I haven't tried before! I think I'll get both! I love the idea of the Lush one for general moisturising, and the ColorWow one for smoothing and making my hair ends look like hair again! Grin My ends are not too dissimilar to the wavy hair girl in the video, but at the roots my hair is growing out straight and shiny, so I'm hopeful the ColorWow will work.

Macadamia do a good crème. It smells divine too. Do not buy on Amazon though as it's a fake product! Best together from an authorized Macadamia seller or trustworthy website.

I use this on my dry ends/frizzy bits and it lasts all day:

I definitely recommend it.

Biologifemini · 29/01/2019 19:03

Nuxe oil
It is an actual oil so tends to work all day

Sexnotgender · 29/01/2019 19:04

Cantu curl activator is super moisturising.

HaveYouNamechangedForThis · 29/01/2019 19:11

Thank you everyone, some really great suggestions here, I'll be busy checking them all out tonight!!

Bio I've used Nuxe oil in the past and it wasn't bad at all, but didn't have the long-lasting effect I was after. When a lot of these oils/creams dry (say after half an hour max) my hair looks literally exactly the same as before - dry and frizzy. I have even smothered my hair in Nuxe and washed it out in the morning, as well as used it on dry hair, and it had a temporarily slightly smoothing effect but not much.

Maybe there's nothing that can really help except waiting for it to grow out and cutting it out (the good regrowth is still too short for this, I have about 3 inches of good hair regrowth so unless I literally had a short chop - and I look absolutely dreadful with short hair! even a shorter bob will still have the dry frizzy thin damaged ends (lucky me!) Smile but I was hoping to find something that would last at least half a day.

I have curly frizz prone hair and the only thing that does it for me is Paul Mitchell twirl around, it's a cream with a bit of serum added gets rid of the frizz without making it crunchy or greasy, you can use it on wet or dry hair.

sanitygirl · 29/01/2019 20:45

Phyto 7 day cream is excellent

Itssosunnyout · 29/01/2019 22:08

Check out the brands Boucleme and Trepadora.
Both are British brand amd all the nasties free.

They work on my hair

Biologifemini · 30/01/2019 07:07

Oh no. I thought I’d cracked it for you as I have similar hair!
I use nuxe followed by a cream wax for texture.
Maybe you need some hairspray to laquer over it all?

Elledorado · 30/01/2019 07:47

superstar Ive heard good things about color wow - also OP the Color Wow Dream Coat may be what you need? Was rec'd on another thread last yr

slinkysaluki · 30/01/2019 07:59

Coconut oil, i smooth some ovwr my hair when its dry paying attention to the ends. My hair is very thick and coarse and prone ti dryness. I also saturate dry hair in it overnight and shampoo out next day, works wionders

SuperstarDJ · 30/01/2019 08:03

Elledorado it suits my hair which is curly, dry, prone to frizz but actually quite fine (though a lot of it) - too much product such as serum on wet hair can make my hair go a bit lanky and greasy feeling so ColourWow is perfect for me.

SuperstarDJ · 30/01/2019 08:05

Must have a look at the dream coat

Sycamoreleaves · 30/01/2019 08:26

Windle and Moodie day and night cream is amazing. You can use it on dry and wet hair.

Elledorado · 30/01/2019 09:44

superstar we are hair twins! I think I need to try the CW cream then. I havent tried rhe dream coat as I cant get it where I love but it also sounded really great

Thanks to all for your advice and suggestions! I'm gathering a long list to check out!

slinky I've tentatively dipped a toe into the coconut oil phenomenon, I warmed some up so it went runny, left it on for an hour wrapped in cling film but once washed out I didn't notice any discernible effect.

I'm also a bit bothered about over-treating the healthy hair and scalp areas. My scalp and growing-out new hair is pretty good - it feels like proper hair, naturally hydrated, shiny and all that, but I've heard coconut oil can smother the scalp/hair follicles a bit and lead to hair not growing out as well as it should. It's hard to treat part of hair rather than all though especially when you're doing it yourself (DH absolutely no help at this sort of thing Smile

It's just that when I wear my hair down, there's 3 inches of good hair and then a lot of broken, dry, frizzy hair. My hair is naturally straight but the damage has made it somewhat wavy. When it's hydrated though it goes back to being straight and smooth, but the effect doesn't seem to last beyond the amount of time it takes for the product to dry out. Even oils dry out Confused I've literally never seen my hair look greasy or lank through product, only naturally if it needs washing. Even then just the roots.

When products talk about "not weighing your hair down" I'm more "Bring it on! Please weigh my hair down!" It's Crystal Tipps dry at the ends.

Hi you really need to leave coconut oil on overnight i think.

I also use this, its s reconstructor

High-end moisturising cream (not serum) for dry frizzy hair?
slinkysaluki · 30/01/2019 10:21

It really smooths and moisturises the hair.

There is the option of having the ends cut off and starting again, the only real way of getting rid of brittle dry end really

HaveYouNamechangedForThis · 30/01/2019 11:47

slinky thanks, I will try and have another go and will leave it on overnight.

That L'oreal professional looks good, I tried the same stuff but in the orange bottles (serie expert inforcer?) shampoo and masque, but it made my hair fluffy and flyaway and showed off the broken strands, a bit like static. I've had some success with Olaplex 3 but I read if your hair isn't treated with Olaplex 1 and 2 during colouring, the Olaplex 3 effect is hardly worth it (and so expensive too). I don't know if that's true or not but it did make some difference so I carry on with it here and there.

My lengths are so dry and damaged - it's the most picky, awkward, contrary, fretful hair Grin the only good thing is that the regrowth is well-behaved. I let bleach highlights go on for too long before I realised that my hair just can't take bleach, or probably any lighter colour that has lift in it, or probably any permanent colour. It can probably handle a level 1 maximum. I don't know what I'll do when I eventually start to go grey. (currently mid-brunette) as there can be no "blending in" highlights for me Sad.

The other thing to bear in mind when choosing products and techniques is how porous your hair is. If freshly-shed hairs float on top of water for a long time your hair is low-porosity and you may need to avoid heavier types of oils like coconut and use heat and mild acidity to help your hair absorb moisture. I thought everybody's hair floated but apparently not! I'm still trying to find the right methods for my wiry hair but I think I'm a step further forward in understanding why too much product just goes sticky on me.

VO5 Conditioning Hairdressing.

Unfortunately it’s not available in this country so I buy mine from America through eBay.

It’s incredibly potent and concentrated. One tube lasts me years and I use it all the time. It might take a bit of trial and error at first but you’ll soon get used to how much you need. You’ll need far less than you imagine.
