A really good quality blazer/jacket smartens up an outfit like nothing else.

The Outnet is good for these kind of things - especially at sale time. It's still expensive but you can get amazingly cut jackets worth loads more for half price.

Black turtleneck jumpers
Black biker jacket
A good coat
Boots
Casual shoes or trainers
Black silk top of some sort
Black heels
Black dress and skirt

A good trench coat goes with and smartens up almost anything.

I don't have and don't want a capsule wardrobe so feel free to ignore me but, if god forbid I ever did have to start again, it would be with decent underwear. You may even find some of the tat is quite presentable over a good bra.

It depends on who you are - your style, your lifestyle, and whether it’s mainly casual, smart or workwear (or all of those) you’re looking for.

I don’t think of mine as a capsule wardrobe, necessarily (I have too many pieces for it to be a true capsule). Instead I think of it as a coordinating wardrobe, with three main categories each of which is a capsule of sorts where all the pieces pretty much work with each other with a recurring theme of base colours and a few coordinating accent colours. This means I can make lots of different outfits and I always look quite well put together. I’m really happy that I’ve pretty well cracked it so that my approach works for me.

I’m not really sure what to advise, though, as I do think clothing is such a personal thing. I think my first suggestion would be to think about what sort of clothing you actually need (as in what does your daily life actually call for), what budget you want to allow for it (so you know what you can afford to pay for basics, classic pieces with potential for longevity, accessories and statement pieces), and then I would think about what your pieces are that you wear a lot, and whether they actually work for you. If they don’t I’d discard and make sure you don’t buy duplicates of them again. If they do work I’d analyse why, and the same for favourite pieces that you really love and that make you feel great when you wear them, so that you can replicate those buys where appropriate. Then I would spend a while on Pinterest looking at images until I work out what appeals to me and what pieces I would need to build similar outfits.

Work clothes...just black trousers and jumper so not bothered about that.

Weekends...taking and watching DS sport covered up so just jeans warm jumper and puffa coat...got these again not bothered.

It's things like what to wear..

Going to town with DH shopping
Going out for weekend dinner
Going out for lunch with my sister or a friend
I like white jeans in the summer
