Shoes to wear with skinny jeans

superstar63 · 24/01/2019 15:02

Iam 67, size 14 on the bottom with size 8 feet. I usually wear knee high boots with skinny jeans/jeggings but am going on long haul flight and hoping to upgrade to upper class so need to look smart and cant wear those easily because of security etc.

What would work, I dont like brogues and this time of year am not sure of ankle boots, I have some with heels but too uncomfortable to wear for any length of time and I aways have the problem of whether to tuck them in etc.

Thinking of wearing black skinny Uniqlo trouser leggins with some sort of thermal vest and maybe find a nice blouse to go with it.

Any help or links please?

Trainers?

cosycashmere · 24/01/2019 21:33

They won't upgrade you to first class just because you're wearing specific shoes you know...

Ollypops14 · 24/01/2019 21:35

Pumps like converse etc

halfwitpicker · 24/01/2019 21:36

I usually wear low kitten heels but that may not be suitable...

thenightsky · 24/01/2019 21:39

Is it still possible to get upgraded by looking a bit posher? I thought that was a 1960s thing that died out decades ago.

superstar63 · 25/01/2019 09:49

Sorry, I should have made it clear that I will be paying for the upgrade with airmiles as long as there is availability which I wont know for sure until nearer the time.

I am not keen on loafers as they remind me of when I was 15 and had to wear "clumpy" shoes to school.

I am thinking some sort of ballet flats with slight wedge or heel but feet may be a bit cold this time of year. I think kitten heels may look a bit odd on me at my age (67) and usually feel very self conscious and ideally would like to be in my around the house wardrobe of leggings and sweater dress/tunic top but obviously that is not an option lol.

Thanks for any more suggestions.

Does anyone really care what the passengers in upper/first class wear? Surely if a ticket has been paid for, in cash or air miles they cannot evict you for the wrong footwear? Or are we back in the 1940’s when ladies wore hats and gloves to travel? Confused

WineNotTea · 25/01/2019 10:38

You will see lots of different looks in Upper Class, a lot of people will change into comfy clothes for sleeping in so I wouldn’t worry too much.

Re footwear I always wear loafers or slip on trainers (I’ve worn trainers in first class). Anything that’s easy to get on if the situation arises where footwear is needed quickly.

WineNotTea · 25/01/2019 10:42

I also wouldn’t wear heels while flying, just as a safety precaution in the event of having to make a quick exit. Highly unlikely to happen but if it does I’d like to be wearing something practical.

Bluntness100 · 25/01/2019 10:46

What's upper class, business or first? Either way it doesn't matter what's on your feet, you can wear your knee high boots, or anything else.

Personally when flying I prefer trainers or ballet flats, simply because you need to walk for bloody miles, but I have also worn knee highs, takes two mins to pull them off at security.

WineNotTea · 25/01/2019 10:46

I had assumed that the OP was talking about Virgin Upper Class.

Bluntness100 · 25/01/2019 10:55

Yes, must be,,,,

superstar63 · 25/01/2019 11:21

Thank you, yes it is Virgin upper class.

I am now thinking of buying some ankle boots like I already have but mine are not comfy for lots of walking so something comfy and flat and easy to get on and off an hopefully tuck the skinny jeans in.

Looking at pictures online of trainers/loafers etc. there is a lot of bare ankle and I think it is just going to be too cold this time of year.

Thanks for all the help.

These are nice: www.jigsaw-online.com/product/yuri-contrast-slipper/J37768_BL010

Slight heel, will go with skinny jeans and are elegant rather than clumpy but look quite substantial.

Soyalatteforme · 25/01/2019 11:23

Sorry didn’t see your latest update!

WineNotTea · 25/01/2019 11:38

I wear socks with loafers/ trainers and skinny jeans! Solves the cold ankle situation.

thefirstmrsdewinter · 25/01/2019 13:39

I was offered a free BA upgrade at check in (overbooked flight) about 15yrs ago and they did all but say they won't do it if you're wearing jeans. (What she actually said was 'We'll upgrade you' and then 'You're not wearing jeans are you?' And I was! But I said I wasn't.)
I think you can pay for an upgrade with cash or points though and wear what you like.

feedingfrenzyatfive · 25/01/2019 16:51

Aren't skinny jeans a bit uncomfortable to wear during a long flight? I'd wear yoga pants myself.

superstar63 · 25/01/2019 20:57

They are Uniqlo trouser leggings in black so although they are jeans in my opinion they do not look like jeans and are not too tight.

Would love to wear yoga pants with a boot cut but that sort of material shows up my considerable cellulite lol

I’ve tried ballet pumps of all prices and the ones I have found to be the most comfortable are the m&s ones. £15 a pair, last for ages, comfy soles.

MoltonSilver · 25/01/2019 23:05

If you wear flight socks you won't be cold.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 26/01/2019 00:07

I would go with chelsea boots. Easy to slip in and off, comfortable and go with everything. They are my go to shoe style.
