Help- sprained ankle and need to wear heels!

I have a milestone birthday this weekend and have bought a glam dress to wear- very gold, shimmery and blingy and had planned to wear black heels with it. However I have sprained my ankle (no recollection of doing anything but it is bruised all over, swollen and hurts!) and can't stand the thought of wearing heels.
Anyone have any bright suggestions on alternatives? They need to be black and closed toe!
The only possibility I have seen is this but I'm not even that convinced they'll work! Hmm

Can you forget heels altogether and go for some smart mules instead? Something like this maybe?

sparkleandsleep · 24/01/2019 15:36

Hmm I like those but don't think they'll match the dress... I'm wearing black tights and think I'd struggle to keep them on!

You wont be able to wear either of those. If you wear the heels you risk damaging the ankle further if it twists.

Your best wearing something sensible but if your not a velvet DrMs kind of girl or couldnt put up with the black lacy sketchers go walk, youre probably best with a pair of ballet pumps which are at least flat. If you're not likely to wear them again primark is your friend.

In the meantime rest ice elevate and rub it with some arnica cream

GreenEggsHamandChips · 24/01/2019 15:46

the sketchers mentioned above just in case

Look pretty good with skirts and black tights, because the sole is so spongy it absorbs the pain of the heal strike

sparkleandsleep · 24/01/2019 15:48

I suspect you're probably right and even if I wore heels I'd end up removing them as my ankle hurt- in that case I'm better wearing flats from the start! I've been looking forward to it for so long and wanted to wear my beautiful heels but will have to find some pretty flats somewhere instead!

Suede or fabric boots?

GreenEggsHamandChips · 24/01/2019 15:51

Are you walking much at the party? Can you "park yourself somewhere wear the pretty heels?

If you dont remember the injury you may find if the rest, ice and elevate and arnica it you clear the worst of the injury anyway.

I'm hoping to spend most of the night on the dance floor... it's been sore for over a week now and not getting any less painful so I'm not holding out much hope for it to be healed by the weekend Sad
Boots could work... I've got a few pairs that have only a small heel- I was just hoping for seriously glam but maybe I'll have to settle for that from the knee up!

Leave the shoes off and get a piggy back.

ManicLoki · 24/01/2019 16:06

I really really don't want to piss on your bonfire OP but have you had it checked/xrayed? I had a similar injury a while back and it turned out to be a fracture. A minor one, but still... Walked (painfully) on it for two weeks then got bollocked by my GP for not getting it checked sooner.

sparkleandsleep · 24/01/2019 16:08

I genuinely hadn't thought it might be properly injured... I don't remember doing anything, just went for a run about ten days ago and almost as soon as I started running my ankle hurt. I can still walk etc, it just aches most of the time with the occasional sharp pain.
I'm going to try a selection of flat shoes on tonight, here goes Confused

Are you strapping the ankle in the meantime? I used kinesiology tape on mine and it took the swelling down no end. Still couldn't walk in heels, but helped the healing hugely.

sparkleandsleep · 24/01/2019 16:14

Thanks. I have tape so will try that. All I've been doing is resting it as much as possible (haven't ran since it started hurting).

No chance you will be dancing all night - and nor should you! Who knows what you've done and/or how much worse you could make it by doing that Shock

Can you get to the GP before the event, so they can assess it for you?

sparkleandsleep · 24/01/2019 16:22

It doesn't hurt to press or prod it at all, it's just when I move it certain ways with a dull ache most of the time, which made me think it was just a sprain. Maybe I should get it checked after all Star

ManicLoki · 24/01/2019 17:21

Get it checked, at least then you'll know whether you can risk a dance Smile

ExplodedPeach · 25/01/2019 10:57

My go-to smart shoe is almost identical to the heels in your OP, but completely flat. They're a few years old now, but I'm sure you could find a flat version. I had a quick look and found these ones
