Botox - bad reactions?

Hi ladies, I’m considering having botox on the frown lines between my eyebrows. I’ve read some reports of people who’ve had bad reactions to botox, and there is research that suggests it can spread beyond the injection site to other parts of the body.

This is making me rather nervous, and I was wondering if anyone on here has ever experienced anything like this?

I have been having botox for 2 years and never experienced this. I have an excellent practitioner who manages to give me just enough to soften a deep line in my forehead and frown line between my eyes but I still have a bit of movement so I don't look frozen. I am 42.

Thanks for your reply, Mamalovebird, very reassuring to hear that your experience has all been positive!

If you google it, I think it can trigger certain autoimmune disorders. I only know this because I read a post on MN from someone where this happened.
I've read that it could potentially spread to the brain. Too much of a risk for me, but thousands have it and like it with no problems so I think it's an individual decision.

I've had it twice now, once every six months, in two areas on my forehead, it's worked great and I'm usually very sensitive to lots of things so was a risk for me. My biggest recommendtion is do your research on who offers it near you, don't use a beauty salon, unless they have a registered nurse (not just a person who claims to be an aesthetic trained therapist) preferably a NHS nurse who does Botox for medical reason and offers it for beauty reasons, and follow the after care (don't lie down for 2 hours, don't massage the area etc) It really made a positive difference in my appearance so I say after your research if you're still happy go for it!

I have a blood condition which means I'm immunocompromised, have had Botox 3 times and no issues. It's approved by my haematologist too before anyone asks!

Another one here with no issues , booked in again soon. I'm looking a bit rough atm so I can't wait!

People can have strong reactions to it. I don't have it cosmetically, but for a medical condition, and I wasn't allowed to drive straight after and had to be observed for a little while.

Had it twice no issues

It can cause bad reactions. It is, basically, a mild / small dose form of the botulinum toxin, which is a neuro toxin (paralyses the nerves).

Make sure the possible side effects are explained and you sign a proper consent form.
