How to look better in my 50s without lots of make-up due to sensitive skin

I don't wear any make-up at the moment as I have psoriasis and find everything either irritates my skin ( especially my eyes) or my skin is so dry that foundation just makes it flaky, plus I can't find the right colour, even after a consultation, the one she recommended looked too dark.

I'm in my 50s and just look plain and tired. I prefer the way I look with mascara and a little eye liner, but that causes my psoriasis to break out.

Any tips? Also for eye make-up remover for eyes for sensitive skin.

I don’t have psoriasis but I do have sensitive skin so my advice might not work for you but I’ll tell you what I’ve found helpful.

As others have said, ditch the wipes. Oil cleansing with either Bodyshop Chamomile oil or Simple oil is good. This stuff is brilliant, you can get it on Amazon, Hada Labo Premium toner ( it’s not a toner as we know it, more like a serum, but it has hydralauric acid in it which helps the skin absorb more moisture), followed by Eucerin 5% Urea moisturiser. None of these products will aggravate your skin and hopefully they will help you.

Also, things like drinking water and eating good fats will help too but I’m sure you know this already!

Good luck with your search OP 💜

Do you just put the oil on and then wipe it off?

I have dermatitis which makes my skin very flaky.

I use a cream to oil cleanser by Remedy - It's not cheap but a little goes a long way.

I bought a little rubber disc with soft bristles on it and I use that in my nose and forehead to cleanse flakes and blackheads it's very gentle. I bought it on holiday in Sephora but you can find alternatives on Amazon.

I think good lash technicians will do a patch test. Worth a try?

Bettydaviseyes · 23/01/2019 19:35

Thanks.

How do I find a good lash technician?

Thanks for the recommendation.

Are you on a local Facebook page - you can get recommendations from there. Or ask among your friends. Or perhaps your hairdresser can recommend one? Definitely don't let anyone near you without a patch test Smile

Thanks Smile Anything else I need to look out for?

I've got child's farm moisturiser so I'll use that for now. So just need a - budget - natural oil cleanser maybe a toner and if possible a very gentle mascara, all not too expensive.

You could just use grapeseed oil (main ingredient of the Simple oil cleanser) as your cleanser.
Rub it into your face and wipe off with a warm, wet flannel.
I use The Ordinary glycolic acid as a toner and any cheap moisturiser but my skin isn't particularly sensitive (never liked Oil of Ulay though).

JinglingHellsBells · 24/01/2019 07:58

Is your skin condition being treated by a dr? If not, it's worth asking for a referral to a dermatologist.

Bettydaviseyes · 24/01/2019 13:21

I saw a specialist a long time ago (I've had it many years) but have just been referred again.

I'll look for grape seed oil, great idea.

When I used wipes the first thing I noticed was after a week or so I started to see blackheads and my face began to look a bit grey and unclean, so your nose may improve as soon as you try something else op.
They can also irritate sensitive skin, even the sensitive/unscented ones.
I use very ordinary oils (olive, almond) to cleanse due to suddenly developing sensitive skin in my 40s. I slap some argan oil on to moisurise. I also like this Eucerin shower oil.

Bettydaviseyes · 24/01/2019 17:26

Thanks. Ive ordered grape seed oil so I'll see how i get on.

Thanks for Eucerin link, I'll have a look.

Cetaphil rich moisturizer in a tube, meant to be for night time but I use it as my daily one.
Bourgois healthy mix serum foundation, agrees with my very sensitive skin. Fond du teint stuff.

Bettydaviseyes · 24/01/2019 18:21

Thanks I'll check them out Smile

Iamfrau I'm trying to find one of those rubber discs to clean my face. Anyone have one they bought in the UK and can link to?
