Bright Spring Colours

Help! I'm looking to streamline my wardrobe and inject some much needed colour. It looks like I'm a "spring" so need clear, bright colours. I've looked at Kettlewell, but the stuff seems really plain and not cheap (for me). Any ideas of where else to look? I've just dyed my hair red, so looking in particular for some nice clear greens.

Depends what style you like/how old you are, shape, height etc. I also suit bright spring colours. I can usually find more clothes that suit me in spring.
When I first got my colours done I found if I first concentrated on getting correctly coloured basics right first everything else followed so clear your wardrobe and focus on getting shoes, bags, jacket, cardigan, trousers, skirts in your correct colours. Anything else you buy will fit in easier.
Phase eight had some 3/4 sleeve tops in bright colours a lovely plain bright green and a plain bright red in the sale.

@Amazonian27
What base colours do you use? I had my colours done around 25 years ago and was a clear spring. I felt that the base colours were more difficult than the clear brights near face.

Have you tried Bennetton?

Amazonian27 · 22/01/2019 07:11

DianaT1969 - I think I got mine done over 30 years ago.
I can’t remember the exact names of the colours. I was bright spring. I tend to go for navy, denim, neutral beige, winter white as basic colours. But we can also wear browns.
Shoes, boots, bags etc I find tan often works best for me but I am quite a casual dresser. As I am tall I often struggle to get basics long enough so I sometimes do have to revert to say a black top or trousers in which case I wear a brightly coloured scarf or bright bold jewellery with it. Most of my scarves have some kind of green shade in. I like white stuff for brightly coloured scarves I have a few plain and pattered.
Others colours I love to wear in tops or scarves coral, bright orangey/red, navy, bright blue (almost with a hint of purple), bright purple, lots of greens and teals.

I'm a Spring too. A bright Spring green is really hard to find (I think my only ones have come from Kettlewell), but I have also found that I can get away with a bright emerald, which is much easier.
Diana I also think that the base colours are harder to get right as I don't particularly like chocolate brown or grey and navys are almost always too dark.

Amazonian27 · 22/01/2019 12:44

Yes I think more like a French Navy is best but ordinary navy always looks much less draining on me and is more versatile with other colours than black.

DianaT1969 · 22/01/2019 14:37

Thanks for the advice. I have a French Navy coat that looks good, whereas other navy does nothing for me. I tend to feel OK in jeans or green trousers. Black is a big no. I feel wrong. I've never managed to find the right grey basic, but suspect is a light grey and I'm quite hourglass, so struggle with tailoring anyway. An planning to have a Kondo clear out this week, so will keep the colours in mind.

Amazonian27 · 22/01/2019 15:11

Think it’s more of a beigey shade we suit rather than grey but unsure of the name maybe like a mocha or something but if you get it right it is great for basics as looks great with everything. Snap I tidied my wardrobe and scarves yesterday so found some lovely things I forgot I had.
How about these colours?

Thank you so much. I am very much a self diagnosed spring, as I have naturally mousey hair (always coloured to either blonde or red, currently red), with grey eyes and a porcelain skin. I am always drawn towards teals, turquoises, blues, greens and that is when I get most compliments. I will definitely look at Benetton, and love that green Phase 8 top. Hope it's still there after pay day next week! I have no idea what base colours are so will google that. So much good advice!

My colours were slightly different to this but roughly speaking the first column is the main/key or base colors to be used for trousers, jackets, shoes etc all these colors work well with the other colors. I also suit a really bright red/orange (not a blue red) not really shown here. Denim goes with all the color seasons I think. Other colors in the wheel can be used for jackets, bags, cardigans etc other than the basic key/base colors if you have a lot of clothes/money or fancy a change and will work well but won’t be quite as versatile/useful as the main/key/base colors.

Your colouring sounds much more like a summer than a spring. And the summer palette had lots of gorgeous blues and greens....

UtahGirl12 · 23/01/2019 22:37

Oooh thank you *Amazonian, that’s really helpful. Do you think Summer Gillybob? I’ve always associated them more with pastels which sort of wash me out.

Utah - you do sound a lot like summer. Most colours are in most pallets it’s the shades that are different. My best friend is winter she looks great in black, cerise, white, royal blue and red but a blue red rather than a warm orange coral red that I would go for. Another friend suits some teal colours that I would wear but she is summer and really rocks pastel shades (pale pink/baby blue). Have fun and play around.

HerculesMulligan · 23/01/2019 23:17

Can anyone help me work out my colours?

Dark brown hair, mid-blue eyes, pale skin without much colour in my cheeks, more yellow than pink.
