Tops to wear during recovery from breast surgery

I am due to have surgery at the beginning of Feb (bastard breast cancer) and won't have much chance before then to trawl around shops in person so will need to order online.

I need to try and find some loose fitting, front fastening tops (as I won't be able to raise my arms above my head easily for a while). I'll need tops both for the initial recovery days but also for my daily trips for radiotherapy.

Has anyone seen any suitable tops made of soft but not flimsy material? Ideally I'd like to get a mix of colours so I can have a bit of choice. I imagine I'll be wearing them with some sort of loose-ish exercise trousers or leggings.

So I guess I'm not so much aiming for 'Style and Beauty' but more for 'Comfort and As Least Dowdy As Possible'!

I think soft material is key. The thought of anything remotely scratchy makes me wince.

Thanks.

I had breast surgery although not for necessity like you.

I wore zip front everything for a while. Lots of tracksuit tops which are warm and comfy. Maybe you could try the velour ones. They always look soft. Or teddy fleece material ones. I think new look have those.

M&S have some post surgery zip front bras too. They are VAT free and very soft.

I really hope your operation goes well and your recovery smoothly.

Seconding zip front but also how about round neck button through cardis in cotton if you want to feel slightly smarter as you feel better. Boden and Uniqlo usually have a range of colours.

I hope everything goes well for you.

Thanks both. I'll take a look. It's good to have some pointers as I'm a bit sea with everything at mo. Trying to divert myself by focusing on the practicalities.

And thanks for your good wishes. It's been caught early luckily (thanks to routine screening).

When I was going through treatment I bought a few wrap tops which were useful in a soft Jersey. For radiation I had some loose yoga bras. Good luck with the treatment, chemo is a bastard but is manageable.

Not sure about tops but George Asda has some post surgery underwear and pyjamas and it looks like some bits are in the sale at the moment.

If you know any dressmakers, I wonder if buying some really soft cotton jersey and getting some loose wrap blouses made up may be worth considering. Vogue does a very easy pattern V9111 and I think it could be adapted so that it falls quite high so not to irritate. Also, loose under the armpit.

Weather will still be cold when you have your op.
I had breast surgery recently, and as well as button-up tops already mentioned, I bought a few soft vest tops to wear as an extra layer.
They can be stepped into and pulled up when you can't lift your arms up to put things on.
Got mine from Next on a multi buy offer.
Hope all goes well for you.

I had a mastectomy 3 years ago. I found soft zip front hoodies and vest tops from Primark was the best. You can pull the vest top down over your shoulders to get them off. The reason I went for Primark is because I got rid of them after I was recovered. Didn't want any reminders.
Best of luck hopefully it will all go well for you.
