Is this at home or a salon?

redsalive · 19/01/2019 13:29

This is at a salon twice.
I'm no desperate to either fix it myself or try another salon.
Would they need to bleach it again ?

To get dark hair to lift to blonde you may have to bleach it a few times. I have light brown hair and mine lifts to a yellowy blonde and I tone it with purple shampoo. It takes two processes to get mine to a light blonde and that's done over 2 months. You will probably need two more trips to the hairdressers to get your hair to where you want it. It also depends on if you have box dye in your hair or how healthy your hair is.

A good hairdresser won't over process your hair so that's why you are left with a lighter brown. You should wait a month between bleaching because if you do it again your hair may break off. I've added a colour chart as it shows the levels, your hair will lift to a certain point and then stop each time you bleach it.

Looks like your hair needs a break and some conditioning treatments. You're not going to go blonde overnight.

I do really like the current colour though!

cocoajumbo · 19/01/2019 13:59

As others have said, going blonde is a process. Get yourself some Fudge Clean Blonde shampoo and leave it on the orange bits for ten minutes; that will start to neutralise them. You will need to repeat and it won't turn your hair blonde, but it will help with the brassiness.

GobblersKnob · 19/01/2019 14:07

I think the colour is nice. It does look like your hair needs a rest from processing though. It looks very broken.

FortyFacedFuckers · 19/01/2019 14:09

From the photo it looks nice but if it is orange then try fanola I use it on my really blond hair and it keeps it really ashy.

LaurieFairyCake · 19/01/2019 14:18

The actual gradation is really lovely, I'd just use a blonde shampoo or toner to turn it more yellowy

redsalive · 19/01/2019 14:25

Ive been deep conditioning it for months now with smart bond and olaplex
I don't use any heat on it but still is really really dry.

I have natural dark blonde hair and it takes me two processes to get the blonde I want for my balayage. I use “a touch of silver” shampoo in between, yours actually looks really nice (it’s not brassy or yellow) so a bit of silver shampoo could really help make it a bit blonder.

Ellapaella · 19/01/2019 14:34

As above a purple/lilac shampoo will take the brassiness out. You can also ask the hairdresser to put a toner on or buy one yourself and do it.

Ellapaella · 19/01/2019 14:36

Your hairdresser needs to use more ash tones next time - that colour looks too warm which is why it's got such a red undertone.

redsalive · 19/01/2019 15:14

She said she didn't want to use a toner as a ash toner would have turned it too dark.

There's only so much you can do with deep conditioning though. Sometimes you just have to grow out the damage.

Fwiw I bleached and dyed my hair without a break for 23 years, then shaved it off and started again. I've never changed the colour again and having hair that felt and looked like hair again was a total revelation.

Frouby · 19/01/2019 16:37

I really rate Joico purple shampoo, it really cools down warm blonde tones to a more ashy colour. Have just given a bit to a friend to try and I noticed the difference straight away.

You won't go from brown to really light blonde without stripping it first, it has to be done gradually otherwise it will just snap off and stripping it can be really harsh.

Just persevere. But eventually be prepared for it to break off, hair will only take so much.

redsalive · 19/01/2019 16:41

I've only dyed my hair twice in 3 years so I'm hoping it will be ok.
Fingers crossed
Once I get the ginger tones out I won't touch it again
