NC as no one else has hair like mine!

My hair is very fine, thin and wavy with the odd curl. It's a bit like children's hair. It's not in good condition because I really have no choice but to straighten it. It's quite fluffy. It gets fuzzy and wavier in damp or humid conditions.

I've had variations on a bob for so long. It comes to a little below the ear but is very thin towards the ends. I've also had it very short - always with some length on top and never as a pixie cut.

Has anyone got any ideas what I can do with it? Hairdressers don't seem to help. I'm so bored and fed up with it.

It definitely looks best in the shortest picture . If I had your hair id keep it that short or even shorter. I agree - full on pixie

JoyceDivision · 17/01/2019 17:40

Fellow fine fluff hair person here op, and I'd say just cut your losses and go for a really short pixie.

Luckingfovely · 17/01/2019 17:43

Another vote for the pixie - I think this would be far the best option for you.

Tootrousers · 17/01/2019 18:06

The last pic you posted looks fab, way better than the earlier ones, will it go like that again?

supergrains · 17/01/2019 19:55

Agree with op the last picture your hair looks great!

sulee · 17/01/2019 20:45

Agree the shorter style was much nicer. Mine is baby fine too and I had a similar style last year which I loved, then my regular stylist left. The next hairdresser decided it needed more layers which ruined it and I’m having to grow it out before it gets cut again.Fine hair needs a really good stylist

The best advice I was given was to try to use a hairdresser with similar hair to my own as they are the only ones likely to have any real understanding of dealing with hair like yours on a daily basis.

I have hair like this. after years of bobs, straightening and fear of rain i went for the chop. ive resigned myself to always having short hair but i do try to keep it trendy and non mumsy - looks in much better condition too xx

windysocks · 17/01/2019 21:06

Also ( just saw your pic with short hair) invest in a good quality hair dryer and round brush to straighten- you wont need straighteners, and i use mousse then styling wax so the rain doesn't affect my hair - i wash & style it every other day xxx

I liked when you had it short. SmileIt looks better than a pixie cut would.

StickItUpYaJumpa · 17/01/2019 21:11

The second lot of photos look lovely.

Maybe consider working with your curl?

Very short hair can look really cute with a curl/a bit wild.

I am so glad I can finally someone. I have exactly this hair. I have to have it short or longer than bob. Bob is awful.

New products have turned my hair around for me! I use a good conditioner, Kerastase Discipline, to get it really hydrated but not heavy. Shove some curl cream, Bumble and Bumble good, and salt spray when wet and leave to dry naturally. It is just below shoulder length which is perfect.

Then on second day I just spray a bit more salt spray (Bumble and Bumble usually) and scrunch a bit, and carry on. Salt spray, wave spray makes it a bit coarser.

Really happy with my hair now and I am 52 and have fought it for years. Curly girl really didn't work for me because it made me hair lank. This works great. And it is better in summer when the air is drier and perfect when I am actually on the beach.

Hairandnow · 17/01/2019 21:44

Thanks everyone.

Obviously I don't ever leave the house with it looking like either of the first two pictures. It was just to show what I'm working with. Hairdressers don't believe me as they only see it straightened before it's washed or when they've finished with it.

I'll try short again. Getting rid of the worst of it should help. I really don't think a really cropped pixie would work though.

Seconding Curly Girl. It'll be easy and cheap to try: you'll need your regular shampoo, a conditioner without silicones (look at the ingredients: you want nothing ending in -cone or -xane) and some gel. Some of Superdrug's own brand conditioners are OK and cost around £1, and Boot's hair gel, the blue one in the men's section, costs about 90p. Wash with your regular shampoo, apply loads of conditioner, squish to condish (look it up), rinse out then squish gel into your dripping wet hair. Squeeze/squish some of the moisture out with a T-shirt, not a terry towel, and dry with a diffuser if you have one.

If that works, and you get curls, don't use your regular shampoo any more. Just co-wash with the conditioner you bought. Honest, your hair and scalp will be perfectly clean.

Because your hair is so fine you might find gel's too heavy and it drops. In that case, Bouclème gel's good. They make cleaning and conditioning products for curly hair, too, but you don't need to get into that until you're sure you're a curly.

Your hair looks beautiful in the short cut of a few years ago. Would you have that again? Really, I’m envious of people who can have short hair and carry it off!
