Covering up rosacea

blamethecat · 16/01/2019 12:29

I am trying to find suitable make up to conceal/cover up roseacea flare ups, I already have dry skin and it gets worse and looks flakey when it flares up as well as being red an lumpy. It mainly affects my nose (look like i have been drinking or full of cold) and my forehead above the bridge of my nose. I don't like heavy make up but my normal foundation is not covering it and I look a mess.

Check out blogger Talonted Lex who has loads of advice about dealing with rosacea www.talontedlex.co.uk

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 16/01/2019 14:29

Clinique do an anti redness foundation that's good.

blamethecat · 16/01/2019 15:44

Thanks, currently want to rip my face off.

Try Kalme, it's made a huge difference to my daughters rosacea.

teta · 16/01/2019 15:52

Kalme chameleon concealer.

beenandgoneandbackagain · 16/01/2019 15:56

I like boing by benefit cosmetics if you want something commercially available.

Waddsup12 · 16/01/2019 15:59

Have you tried Zoolantra/Invermectin?

Had it prescribed by a consultant, after doing all the usual GP treatments. Worked really well for me and I didn't realise how inflamed by face was prior. Now only use it when I get pustules.

Covering it up would make it worse, get proper treatment, as it progresses with age and you don't want that.

Bromididine caused me issues tho, so I'd not suggest that for redness.

Waddsup12 · 16/01/2019 16:00

I've assumed you've not had medical treatments, apologies if you have and just want to cover up.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 16/01/2019 16:02

I use Estée Lauder bb Creme and their double wear compact powder. Stat seems at least to make it look a lot better rather than covering it up like camouflage

ShatnersBassoon · 16/01/2019 16:07

I can recommend Soolantra too. It completely got rid of the bumps and dryness for me.

pangolina · 16/01/2019 16:17

What foundation do you use currently?
I use an nyx green colour corrector on mine when it's particularly bad and then l'oreal infallible foundation which is decent coverage and doesn't seem to emphasise the dry bits.
I get the red nose too and it's awful.

blamethecat · 16/01/2019 16:21

I had been using Dermalex rosacea cream, but having finally seen the GP have been prescribed metronidazole ( I think), but it just looks so bad when I am at work (Customer facing all day) that I feel I need something to cover it up a bit.

Moretinsel · 16/01/2019 16:23

Yes soolantra and Kalme has cleared mine right up

blamethecat · 16/01/2019 16:24

Current foundation is Body shop fresh nude, a fairly light coverage one.
Tried the NYX green concealer but the flakeyness of my skin was worse afterwards.and by mid morning I am bright red again.

You should look for a foundation that is water based as they are less irritating for rosacea prone skin!

LittleMissBrainy · 16/01/2019 17:35

Have you tried IT cosmetics? I've recently discovered it and it's got lots of products to conceal redness and rosacea. It's really good.

Beautifullymixed · 16/01/2019 18:30

I've been hydrating like crazy lately, as the cold weather has dried up my skin.
My rosacea then appears dehydrated, dry, flaky, oily with pustules all at the same time. Blush
I have found that layering serums, hydrating essences, as well as actives has helped calm the redness and breakouts.
I especially love TO niacinamide and 2% retinoid serums.
These calm overnight.

I have then started using Estee Lauder double wear foundation on top.
I even mixed a little translucent powder into the foundation to thicken it up this morning.
This conceals all the redness and hyperpigmentation beautifully.
It doesn't look like a mask because I don't apply the foundation all over, just mainly on the cheek area.
I am just fed up of looking red and spotty.

I do make sure my skin is really hydrated though, and apply with a damp sponge, to ensure a smooth look.
I then lightly powder afterwards, really lightly dusting the powder off, as to not make the skin look dry and flaky.

I have quite enjoyed looking in the mirror this week actually.

explodingkitten · 16/01/2019 18:36

I know it's not what you asked for but I had my cheeks lasered to get rid of most of it last spring and I was/ am very happy with the result. It cost me around 200 euro in the Netherlands.

Tulipvase · 16/01/2019 18:45

I’m not 100% certain I have rosacea but I do get sore, itchy, red skin on the sides of my nose.

I tried Eucerin moisturiser (Boots sell it) and it works as long as I use it every night. It contains Urea and really helps dry skin. The night one is good but is greasy so I do only use it at night.

Might be worth a try.

Cheerbear23 · 16/01/2019 19:39

Soolantra was good, but I had a struggle getting the Gp to prescribe it.
To cover it up I use mac factor green concealer and rimmel 25 hrs foundation (very thick). When it starts flaking I use 8hr cream on it.
I seem to just get patched up the side of my nose now - very sore!

ShatnersBassoon · 16/01/2019 20:40

I get Soolantra online. It's more expensive than a prescription from my GP, but worth it to save the hassle.

DoYouLikeHueyLewisandTheNews · 17/01/2019 10:06

I use Estée Lauder camouflage foundation on my red patches, blend it in then apply my usual, less coverage foundation (I use a variety, some are cheap high street ones and it works with all of them) as normal. I find this works really well for covering my very red nose.

Sgtmajormummy · 17/01/2019 10:21

A cheapie product that irritates my skin less than more expensive ones:
ALDI BB cream in the white pump dispenser. It comes in about 4 shades and one is a very close match so I only need a few drops for cover-ups and leave the rest of my face bare.

Nose only, trying my best to confine it. Argan oil Morrocan soap seems to help with daily rehydration but it’s a bit smelly...

Another vote for IT Cosmetics.
You can buy them in Boots and QVC.

I also swear by this in cold or windy weather:

Fooferella · 17/01/2019 11:29

I have rosacea and I swear by the Clinique Redness Solutions range which I've used for years. I use the calming cleanser, the daily relief moisture cream, the foundation and the anti-redness powder. It covers really naturally and doesn't irritate the skin. I've tried Dermalex, anti-fungal creams, anti-biotic creams and they all make my skin flush and sting.
I was told to stay away from products containing oil and this has made a huge difference to how my skin looks.
I hope you find what works for you.
