Wigs

Any knowledgeable users of wigs here?
I've been keen on trying out some wigs as an accessory. Currently have shortish funky Bob but wouldn't mind mixing it up with some wigs rather than painstakingly growing the hair out.

Firstly any reccomendations of decent places to buy them. As a starter/trail and onto to the good stuff.
Plus any other advice that I might not think of when it comes to wigs.

Posting on another thread about going grey has prompted me to join in this one. I have often thought about wigs as I like to change my style and colour often. Growing out is the biggest pain!
From what I know about them I would think a cheap synthetic one will look as such and would possibly get hot.
Expect a real hair by good professional is best but quite expensive. Around £500, but I'm not certain about that.
In an ideal world it would be great if you don't want people knowing to have a few of them to appear to naturally change!
Lastly on the other thread I said my dilemma is feeling bad about doing it, as some people have to wear wigs, and my hair isn't really that bad, although I'm generally usually unhappy with it, mainly getting the style right and cut properly is my problem.

I wore wigs when I was going through chemo. Mine was synthetic and it looked good. It only looked obviously fake in photos. Once my hair had grown back it was really uncomfortable I hated it bit you may not have that problem.

I didn't get a real hair wig as it was too much maintenance you have to style it after washing. Not all synthetic wigs look cheap. Get your hairdresser to style it for you by reshaping it makes a big difference and less wiggy looking.

My friend and I were talking about this in the pub just last week. I've never understood, with all the synthetic stuff we do to ourselves, why wigs have never really been a "thing". I have a grey blonde bob. I would love to have chestnut hair again...

I do know when I've worn a black one for fancy dress at Halloween that I don't need any other costume as I do in fact look like a corpse.

Sorry should have said - can't dye as I'm now very allergic to the dye.

I wear one full time feel free to ask away 😁

Full time wig wearer because of alopecia. I’m completely out about it, so have lots of different colours and styles. Synthetic is by far the most common and versatile and with a bit of customisation can look excellent - better than my own hair would have been by this age! I wouldn’t even consider human though. I get mine from Simply Wigs, Valentine Wigs and Continental Wigs.

Yes in a way I find the idea of real hair a bit off putting some how, and expect it has to be treated alot more carefully because of damage. The synthetic ones have probably come a long way, not that I've had one before.
I've only known one person who permanently wears a wig, a real hair one and I didn't realise at all! Really suited them.

When I got my first ‘medical’ wig in 1976, I cried all the way home from hospital with it in a brown bag and swore hell would freeze over before I ever put a wig on my head. Now...can’t get enough of them :). They have transformed beyond belief.
