Why won't my curls hold??

I've finally mastered (in a fashion) the art of curling my hair with my ghds after studying my hairdresser for years!! I even use all the same products she uses, so why on earth do my curls drop out my hair after 20 minutes whereas when she does it they stay in for days??

Where am I going wrong?

Not sure about when your hairdresser does it but I've always found that if my hair is clean the curls drop out quickly versus when it's a day old. Are you doing it on just washed hair?

Yes I am but so is she, I don't get why it's so different?!

I'm not sure what the hairdresser does differently maybe it's the products they use? Or just their technic is just abit better/firmer?
However agree with @MrsTeach I never curl my hair after just washing it as they never stay in. I wash my hair the night before and curl in the morning.

Could it be something to do with angle/pressure/speed combination used?
I always struggle with the back of mine as I just can't rotate the GHDs enough.
You may already do this but I pull the GHDs all the way to the end whilst rotating then roll them back up in the hair and hold for a couple of seconds before releasing. Not sure that makes sense Grin

My curls never ever ever stay in. Unless I curl, then immediately apply A LOT of hairspray. Then, once the hair is all curled and pretty much crispy with all the hairspray, I spray a lot of dry shampoo all over my scalp, bend over, and rub the dry shampoo in. Then, wait about 5 minutes, and gently finger comb the curls to seprarate them a bit, or even use the tangle teezer to do it - but if you're brushing out curls, always start brushing them at the bottom and work your way up.

The curls will then stay in for days. :)
