Will Olaplex help dye my very dark hair white?

You can just about see my roots on this photo - they are white, not grey. If I didn’t dye my hair very dark brown (no.3) it would be almost completely white!

My DH and my mum keep saying I should let it go white, I could carry it off etc. I’m 41, wear my hair in a longish pixie and it is very thick hair.

Could I go white in one go? Is there any way of it not looking even morefrumpy?? I’m not the most adventurous fashion-wise - I shop in Joules, Fat Face and Next mostly!

Good lord NO WAY. Never in one go. Ever.

You seem to have mistaken Olaplex for what it actually is

Olaplex is no miracle, it will help mend broken bonds in the hair during processing. Not all either.

The problem with big stylists promoting this product is they seem to give the impression you can go from one end of the spectrum the the other without damage. Trust me damage can happen with or without It, I was using it when they were trialling it, before it was on general sale to stylists.

Any stylist who says you can do what you are asking, from a home dye to actual white in several goes never mind one, I wouldn’t hand my money over!

Going lighter from a box dye needs to be a gradual process, with at least 8 weeks inbetween and knowledge

I would go to a reputable salon and just pay for them to get it to your root colour. It will just go orange in one go unfortunately 🙈

NoIAmSpartacus · 13/01/2019 17:48

Nope. It takes a long time and a lot of stages ( including orange ones )

God no. I use olaplex a lot since I have very long hair which is naturally dark brown but has balayage. I use it at home regularly and my stylist uses it when they colour it.

All it does is helps the bonds to strengthen. It isn't by any means a miracle product.

I went from dark brown to dark brown with some lighter brown bits, to dark brown with a range of caramel/toffee colours through it. It took three stages to get there, each 3-4 months apart.

I would stop using such a dark colour on it (switch to using a mid brown) and would also switch to temporary/semi permanent colour not permanent. Then when you've got a good amount of root growth which hasn't had permanent colour on it I'd go to a decent colourist and gradually go lighter. If its a pixie cut it shouldn't take long to grow the colour out.

I'm going through this process myself from light brown to embracing my white. It's going to take a while and went to discuss this with my hairdresser.

You have to do it in stages.

Olaplex is a great product to help repair the hair and I'm currently using the conditioner but please go and see a colour technician.

I'm very grey and was starting to get the badger stripe a few years ago having dyed my hair various shades of brown, red, aubergine for the previous 30 years....

I stopped using perm colours and went for washable shades while the stripe grew out. My hair was down to my bum so it took a while but once it was beyond roots it didn't look so bad.

I know someone who tried to strip the colour out of his near white hair and he ended up with something akin to trump so tread carefully 🙄

Thank you wise people! There was something on our local FB and a very popular salon suggested they could do it and Olaplex would even improve hair during the process. That’s what prompted me to ask you!

You’ve saved me a lot of money and heartache!
