Capsule wardrobe help!!!

Tigger83 · 13/01/2019 17:01

I've made a decision.... with a baby and struggling with my style direction I'm going to streamline my wardrobe and move towards a capsule wardrobe. My pallet is going to be black grey and white with accents of gold/mustard and burgundy.

Need recommendations for work (office based but not super formal) and casual. Nothing in my wardrobe feels right any more. I have invested in some great black trousers, black pencil skirt, blue and black jeans (skinny fit) I'm a size 10/12 with baggy belly post baby. I'm the lowest weight I've been for years and intend on continuing to work on that.

What are my must haves?!
Where do you buy the perfect white t from?
Am I mad?!

I just got some 100% cotton basic t's from m&s which are lovely :)

I think your colour palette sounds really nice!

1-2 nice white shirts/tops 1 top in mustard one in burgundy make one of these a bit dressy so can wear it to out in an evening
a grey or black cardigan and another in one of your colours for when you want to avoid the all black look
decent fitted black jacket for going out, interviews etc ( will do for funerals too)
3-4 t shirts / long sleeved tops for casual wear
for accents either scarves or costume jewellery
nice bag
coat that matches everything
maybe a black and white dress for summer for work with one of your cardigans but would do for sightseeing BBQ etc

Thank you I'll look at m&s.

Any other recommendations?

Uniqlo are good for basics.

Don't worry too much about the perfect white t-shirt. The reality is that whatever you buy at whatever price point, will quickly pick up an odd stain, or marks from deodorant.

Swiftier · 14/01/2019 07:52

Sunspiel are good for plain tees. Jigsaw also have a range of Pima cotton tees which are v soft and wear well.

*Sunspel not Sunspiel!

Elledorado · 14/01/2019 08:03

Honestly?

A limited colour palette is great but I think I would very quickly get bored if I was in basics (skinny jeans/ pencil skirt and a plain white tee!) every day - unless you're talking just work wardrobe? Personally I would go somewhere like H&M or Zara or JL and try loads on. Sans baby of course Wink

Thanks everyone!

It's mainly work wardrobe but my casual look is not great and I feel I need to have a more pulled together look rather than thrown together! Don't mind boring as I can jazz the look up with accessories.

Looking for great jumpers/ts/blazers etc that can be mix and matched! Will go and do a big shop once I've finished on mat leave and have some money coming in (next month!)

I'd like to treat myself to one really good quality item a month and some midrange items to build my wardrobe back up now my shape and everything has changed. By good quality I don't mean hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of pounds but a bit more special than the norm. E.g. I've just bought a pencil skirt in the Reiss sale for £65 reduced for £150 which is more than I'd usually spend but for an item that's a staple I'm willing to spend more.

A navy or black trench coat always looks good and "pulled together". You can wear it for work or over skinny jeans. I developed this kind of wardrobe, it honestly makes dressing easier! I would second the M&S plain t-shirts, they have long sleeved versions at the moment (£9.50, I think) which are very versatile. A black fitted jacket also is a good buy - it automatically smartens a look, and you can wear it with most outfits.

Uniqlo extra fine merino. Cheap as chips and good quality

Tigger83 · 16/01/2019 12:00

Fab thank you! Operation clear out begins this weekend.

I've managed to grab some bits in the sale, picked up a blazer from oasis reduced from £68-£20! My reiss sale skirt fits really nicely so that's great.

My mum had an old wool coat from harrods which is amazing quality and classic so I'm going to take it to a seamstress to have it fitted.
