Skin brightener that doesn’t contain vitamin C

Just that really. I have tried The Ordinary, La Roche Posay and another I can’t remember the name of and they have all caused my skin to feel dry and lumpy.
I’m 53, and whilst I’m lucky to have relatively line free skin it could do with a ‘lift’.
Advise anyone?

Do you mean something that fades pigmented areas?

Thebearsbunny · 12/01/2019 14:33

No, just something to brighten my skin. It looks quite dull and sallow and sort of tired looking. I’d like a product that will give me a healthy glow.

A very easy way to give yourself a bit of a glow is to get a hydrating toner. Lots and lots of light layers to really boost moisture, it does work. I have/had very dehydrated skin (always thought it was just dry as I'm eczema prone tok) and it really makes a difference. It helps smooth any fine lines too as it plumps up the skin.

I tend to stick to fairly simple ones because of sensitivity- faves are Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner and Etude House Soon Jung toner, but there are many others including Klairs Supple Preparation toner and Whamisa, for example.

Maybe an acid or retinol would suit you better (or both). You'll need to wear SPF if you use either though. Garden of Wisdom Vit C is supposed to be good and it's not expensive.

I think you're looking for something to give you a bit of a glow? I'd say an acid once or twice a week. Paula's Choice is a brand often recommended. They do retinol too. The Ordinary do both. The queen of acids seems to be Biologique Recherche. Plenty of hydration and moisturiser in between and SPF of at least 30 every day.

Have a look at the brand Lixir Skin too. Very simple routine.

And find the skincare thread on here with the elephant in the title. There are links to great advice documents that one of the posters put together.
