Breast Implant Removal Surgery/ Possible Uplift

Has anyone had this, And why? Did you have them replaced? If not, are you happy with how they look now? Or did you need an uplift?
I had breast implants almost 10 years ago but they’ve recently become quite hard and painful. I went to see my surgeon who said I have grade 3 capsular contracture. He wants to remove them and not replace them as I am now more prone to further issues.
The reason I got implants in the first place was to correct severe assymetry (one breast an A and one a C) so I’m concerned at what I’m going to be left with. My surgeon thinks as I’m young my skin should retract well and I’ve had children since so hormone changes may have helped my smaller breast develop.
The other option he gave me would be to remove my implants then 6 months later uplift them to make them a similar size but that would mean more scarring/longer recovery time/two seperate surgeries and I’d ultimately be left with two very small breasts.
I appreciate my surgeons honesty and the fact he’s thinking about my wellbeing long term rather than just making money but I’m just struggling to make a decision and come to terms with the fact my appearance is going to have to change so much.

I'm almost positive that the uplift can be done at the same time as the explant, there should be no need for two separate surgeries. You need to consult with some other, more skilled surgeons.

Villa I will be getting a second opinion. I think what he was saying was that I may not need an uplift if I give my skin time to retract and heal once the implants are removed (I highly doubt that but I suppose we shall see!)

Vaggie What was the recovery like following the implant removal?
How did you cope going from a larger to a smaller breast size in a short period of time? Are your breasts Symmetrical now?

Hi deflated, I had an explant after having implants for 9 years. I also had CC and wanted more implants put back in really but my surgeon advised me not to as there was a high chance I’d develop it again. I had an explant and uplift at the same time under a local anaesthetic with sedation. I found it much more painful than having them put in, I’ll be honest. I’m so glad I had the uplift too. I do really miss having a big bust though I must say but with the uplift I he folded the skin under if you get what I mean so they are full and pert just small! Any questions feel free to DM me

Thanks Vaggie That's really helpful.

I also had self esteem issues as a teen so am worried that removing the implants will transport me back to that feeling but only time will tell I guess.

I couldn’t decide between a replacement or a removal but after weighing it up I have opted to have them removed. I have two consultations this month and will have them removed en bloc.

I too have worried about how I will feel after but I would rather just remove them than have to keep replacing. I plan to wait for them to heal before deciding if I need an uplift.

Hi ladies, I am also wanting my implants removed aand was wondering how everyone has got on with having them done? I have read your previous messages. How much did it cost? I am currently waiting to see if I can get funding on the nhs due to lumps and pain but I think I will need an uplift also. Thanks xx

sammieleigh83 · 30/01/2020 20:41

@mummy3under2 - did you ever find out about cost for this procedure? x

Inforthelonghaul · 30/01/2020 22:20

My implants are 25 years old so will have to come out soon I think. I’ve been really lucky and had no issues at all but don’t think I will replace them. That said I’m terrified that they will look awful without a lift too but only want one surgery. I’m 50 though so they’re unlikely to spring back into place by themselves.

Inliverpool1 · 31/01/2020 07:41

Why wouldn’t you replace them just out of interest ?
