Awful orange peel skin on forehead - help! (Pic attached)

I'm 44 and over the last couple of years I've noticed my forehead has gone all crepey and orange peely. Are there any facial treatments to sort it or is this just ageing? It's really depressing me as I'm not a makeupy person normally so haven't a clue how to disguise it even. Can anyone advise? The rest of my face is smoother but my chins affected too. I'd spend money to get it sorted but unsure of treatments other than bog standard facial. Thanks!

I'm no expert but your skin looks dehydrated to me. I's start with a good serum with hyaluronic acid in and a sheet mask once a week. I find Hada Labo and The Ordinary good brands and not too expensive.

brassbrass · 09/01/2019 15:26

If it's dehydrated no amount of creams will help unless you're increasing your water intake so make sure you are doing that.

alphaechokiwi · 09/01/2019 15:39

I have started using Retin A (Tretinoin) over the past 6 months and the 'orange peel' between my eyebrows has improved markedly

etnagreen · 09/01/2019 16:19

Do you use face wipes.
It looks like you may have been the victim of residual product left over night?
I’d cut out any fragrance from your products too :)

applepineapple · 09/01/2019 16:22

Would be good to know your current routine as well Smile it might be due to products you're currently using

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 09/01/2019 16:30

I'd also do a weekly exfoliation.

MargotsFlounceyBlouse · 09/01/2019 16:34

Thanks so much! Am taking notes and googling. Not much of a routine as it stands! Wash with whatever shower gel we have, buff on a towel, I occasionally swipe with the Aldi glycolic wipes and for preference use lush imperialis moisturiser but I've run out so using all manner of stuff from a bit of bio oil, to simple brand. If going out I'll use a dab of Clarins bamboo exfoliator on my face when showering which is a body scrub technically but it's quite fine. That's once a month though at best.

OMG shower gel and body scrub...your poor face!

MoltonSilver · 09/01/2019 17:12

My suggestion would be

-Face wash morning and night
-SPF and moisturiser during the day
-Acid toner every second night (or maybe less)

  • Something with retinol in it every other night
MargotsFlounceyBlouse · 09/01/2019 17:20

I'm clueless! Tbh even using a moisturiser seems terribly grown up to me. I shall endeavour to do better Grin maybe I'll update the thread with new regime when I've figured it out! Still taking notes...

You need to cleanse, tone and moisturise twice a day with good quality products. You also need to drink lots of water.

I drink between 2-3 litres of water a day and use Elemis products (expensive but worth it). If I go a day without moisturising I really notice the difference and it's not good!

When I switched to Elemis and started drinking lots of water, people started commenting that every time they saw me I looked younger!

Delatron · 09/01/2019 18:08

I don’t think toning is a thing anymore?

Retinol is good. Maybe a vitamin A serum and spf in the day.

Musicforsnorks · 09/01/2019 18:18

I’m 44, not familiar with this one myself but the first thing I wondered was whether it could be hormonal? For some reason it just doesn’t strike me as age related, if you see what I mean?
Maybe hormonal or medication related, etc?

Not sure, but a different angle to think about, for if it was connected to bodily changes or medications no amount of serums or other shite would make a difference.

My body is doing some weird stuff of it’s own this past few yrs. it’s like a never ending stream 0f surprises Shock

Winnie2019 · 09/01/2019 18:25

@Delatron I didn't realise that. That will save me some money then Grin

bizzy1234 · 09/01/2019 18:25

It looks like you are dehydrated...
I'm a beautician... I would suggest upping your water intake firstly..
Have a facial peel - really good for removing old skin cells
Use a mask once a week
Don't exfoliate more than once a week
Invest in good quality products...
Have a look at Monu which is what I use on my clients
Hope that helps Smile

antwaki · 09/01/2019 18:45

Don't know if it could be related but I had a skin reaction like that when I used bio oil a few years ago. I also became super sensitive to fragranced products and had to go to very mild Unfragranced products for a couple of years after. Guessed I was allergic but all back to normal now.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 09/01/2019 18:55

Have a Clarins facial once a month for a few months? I did that before my wedding and after about 4 months my skin was really really improved.

MargotsFlounceyBlouse · 09/01/2019 18:59

musicforsnorks I'm not on any medication but I do see where you're coming from. I know plenty of women my age who haven't got the same.

Consensus seems to suggest more water and some care. I'm going to do it. Looking at options. Thank you all, this is lovely like having a bunch of big sisters Grin

@winnie2018 😃. I think it’s more that the whole ‘cleanse, tone and moisturise’ thing has changed. With serums, retinol etc. Toners don’t really have any value unless they are an acid toner but I get acids in my cleansers. I also don’t use moisturiser but two serums then an spf in the day and just a retinol serum at night. Skin never looked better.

madmum5811 · 09/01/2019 19:02

I think I would try some antihistamines. Are you a sun worshipper?

madmum5811 · 09/01/2019 19:03

Goodness just clicked on your picture. I would be looking at getting referred to a skin specialist.

Veterinari · 09/01/2019 19:08

I had quite oily skin when younger and large pores. As i’ve Aged the large pores have all wrinkled together into this orange peel effect

Botox is the only thing i’ve Found that works - it stops the wrinkling.
Lots of water and hyaluronic acid and retinol may help also

MargotsFlounceyBlouse · 09/01/2019 19:09

Funnily enough I am referred to a dermatologist for something that looks like persistent pityriasis versicolour (ahem - on my groin though). Maybe I can ask them when I go next week!

I used to have sunbeds but only for a few weeks at a time leading up to a holiday so not regularly. Not for 9 months at least now.

Orangey picture most likely due to kitchen lights I am currently quite pasty faced Grin
