Colour analysis - no makeup?

I'm seeing a personal shopper on Saturday and she's going to do my colours first. She's asked that I turn up to the appointment without any makeup on. Is there a reason for this? I pretty much always have some on unless I'm going to the gym or for a run in the morning so wouldn't it be more accurate if I at least have my normal primer and tinted moisturiser on?

I'd go in your normal makeup. Seems a strange request unless you were planning to buy makeup

NorthernGravy · 08/01/2019 19:39

It allows them to see the natural colour of your skin which is what the analysis is based on. They don’t want to see your skin with foundation/ blusher etc that could hide it. Definitely go without makeup if you want to do it properly. You are spending over £100, why waste it?

I'm going without make up for a few weeks and it's so much more noticeable which colours suit and don't suit me.

Doobigetta · 08/01/2019 20:12

It’s partly so they can decide which colours look best on you, and partly so they can make you up like a clown and then try and flog you the makeup.

Karcheer · 08/01/2019 20:16

where are you going to have this done? Is it one of the dept stores?

when I had HoC she asked me to do the same so she could see the colour of my skin.

Really fancy seeing a PS again.

NotMeNoNo · 08/01/2019 21:05

Take your make up with you but she will need to see your natural skin tone to judge the effect of the colours. If your foundation is a good match you can put it on after to check the effect in your seasons colours.

Yikes ok, will go make up free then. She's an independent consultant and I'm going to her studio / work space for colours, the first of three sessions - she doesn't do makeup herself as far as I know so I don't think that's what she's pushing for. Might just attempt to cover my under eye circles slightly, so I don't scare anyone on the train on the way there!

Honestly don't - or at least take it all off when you get there. There may be some colours that will make those circles disappear but you won't see it if they're covered up.

I had this done some years ago and hated having to look at myself in the mirror without makeup! But...they do need to see the actual tone of your skin as they drape different colour scarves around your neck to see which colours brighten you and which drag you down. Its quite a subtle process and they do need to be accurate.

NamedyChangedy · 09/01/2019 08:07

Thanks Floisme, I see what you mean.

And thinking ahead to the wardrobe session when she comes to mine and checks out what I already have, what should I wear!? I'm not at all happy with being naked in front of anyone, even if I'm paying them! Would it be weird if I wore some kind of vest top/ legging combo that I keep on underneath everything I try on?

When I did a style day it involved stripping down so the body shape /proportions can be assessed /measured. So yes leggings and close fitting vest would be ideal.

Can I ask where you are having this done. It is something I will want to have done when I have finished losing weight.
