Dermaplaning - is it worth it?

I have quite good skin (occasional spots and a bit of an uneven skin tone, but nothing major) but it’s quite dull and at this time of year I have to use heavy moisturiser or else I get flaky patches and dry spots.

I’ve been hearing about dermaplaning but I don’t know anyone who’s had it done so no real life recommendations. Do you think it’s worth it, and would it make a noticeable difference for skin that’s just a bit bleurgh?

If it matters, I’m mid 30s, have fairly pale skin tone and a few lines when I smile but no noticeable wrinkles.

It basically shifts any fine hair and flakes/dry skin. I do it myself

kezzaerina · 08/01/2019 13:35

To be honest, when I got it done I loved the feeling and the look of my skin...plus your make up sits a lot better, however if it is not something you are going to upkeep and have done regularly - do not bother.

I have had it done once only.

Etino · 08/01/2019 13:41

@kezzaerina
Where did you get it done and how much was it?

cloudtree · 08/01/2019 13:43

I also do it myself. But yes it does make a difference.

Russell19 · 08/01/2019 16:02

I didn't like it :( it irritated my sensitive skin. Depends what skin type you have.

ParadiseLaundry · 08/01/2019 16:28

I also do it myself, you can get the razors very cheaply on amazon. There are lots of YouTube tutorials on it. It's very easy, you just have to be careful and not go overboard!

TyrionsNextWife · 09/01/2019 08:42

I didn’t realise you could get special razors and do it yourself! I’ll YouTube it and see how easy it looks - I might be back again soon asking for concealer advice when I end up looking like the joker Grin

Thank you for the replies, it’s much appreciated!

I had it done professionally £65.00 nw England. Skin felt lovely but I came out in a few spots afterward and I rarely get spots, so will not be doing it again.

cloudtree · 09/01/2019 09:15

Its about £45 here if you get it done in a salon. Midlands.

Til89 · 09/01/2019 09:47

I do mine myself. Buy the razors online and follow a YouTube video. It makes such a difference to flakey skin.

KatharinaRosalie · 09/01/2019 12:37

Get yourself Paula's Choice BHA exfoliator. Exactly what you need for dull and generally meh skin.

katmunchkin · 14/01/2019 12:09

I've had it done 3 times 6 weeks apart. Straight after your skin feels amazingly soft and make up goes on so well, but I find the peachy fuzz (the hair) grows back quite quickly so it doesn't last. Scary how much "dead skin" comes off though. Interested that you can buy the scalpels yourself, my beautician said she does her's herself. Mine is £35 in the Midlands and takes about 25 minutes.

Fashionista101 · 14/01/2019 15:46

Yep I do mine also. So easy and my skin feels great and it's rank the amount of gunk that comes off!

Pinkiii · 14/01/2019 17:47

I do it myself using eyebrow razors, works greatz i have really dry skin so it feels nice getting rid of all the flaky bits, my skin just soaks up serums and creams nicely after i have done it. I do it evey 3-4 weeks

mytieisascarf · 14/01/2019 17:49

I worry. Does the peachy fuzz not just grow back thicker and darker. Is it not effectively just shaving your face????

Imfinehowareyou · 14/01/2019 17:54

It is just shaving your face but the peach fuzz doesn't grow back darker or thicker. Like other posters I use cheap eyebrow razors from Amazon. It is SOOO satisfying!!

mytieisascarf · 14/01/2019 17:58

Bet you I'd be the one person who ends up with a Captain Birdseye style beard.

Fashionista101 · 14/01/2019 18:22

Yep not gonna lie I got carried away with my sideys, I now have non but I just keep on top of it and they don't grow back thicker or darker. That's a complete myth (ex beauty therapist).
