I'm 40 and still to find the one :-(

HNY to all,

I'm hopeless at 40.... I need a medium to full coverage foundation. I have dry skin round my nose and make-up loves settling in creases, lines and my huge pores. My complexion is mostly clear but I do have a little redness around my chin, nose and cheeks.

I've tried umpteen and more primers. My skin care is good (my job causes my red patches and my sore-dry nose but aveeno is my friend hereWink). Primers do not seem to work for me.

Despite this I have settled on No.7 products, I like the foundation drops/stay perfect and airbrush away. My issue is I'm never colour matched the same . Each consultant recommends a different shade, the device frequently gives me a change between 3/4 shades. I'm told I'm cool toned one visit then warm the next. Although I realise colour match might be different between height of the summer and the depths of the winter, I've still been matched differently within a space of a couple of weeks.

I'm useless at deciding myself too. I'm not pale skinned but on the fairer side of the scale, I tan easily and rarely burn. I'm currently wearing the recommended warm beige as I was told I'm warm toned- it's bloody orange!!! Extremely orange on first app but I've managed to blend it enough to just about get away with it- but still I feel umpaloompah at age 40!

How can I get this right without continuously wasting money? I love the No.7 products and there must be a correct colour match there somewhere.

Sad

Why don't you get colour matched BUT then get a few that look similar and swipe them on your jaw line. Step outside, look in the mirror and choose the colour YOU prefer!

Hi op, I have dry skin like you. The best primer I've found is Hourglass No28 Serum. I could never understand why foundation - any foundation - was patchy until I used this.

Now I can use Hourglass Vanish stick foundation, even around my eyes, without creasing and patchyness.

The Mecca website have a foundation colour match which I've found surprisingly spot on. If you know one colour in a brand they have that matches you, it will perfectly match you to any other brand.

I’ve recently bought EL Doublewear water foundation and I love it! It gives me coverage that lasts but isn’t thick and doesn’t sit in my wrinkles! I’ve used loads before - BB creams, tinted moisturisers, maybelline foundations and MAC but EL is way better. Pricey but ask for a sample

La Roche Posay or Balance Me for skincare. Love La Roche Posay Redermic serums and Balance Me moisturisers. Clinique Even Better Glow foundation - gives just the right amount of coverage, never looks caked and is flattering on mature skin (I’m 50 and also suffer with large pores.) You may need a little powder on your T zone - best I’ve ever found is Vichy Dermablend loose setting powder. Hope they work for you Smile

Also, Clinique give a week’s worth of foundation in a little pot for you to try before you buy. They’ll also colour match you. Really helpful, in my experience.

It might be worth trying the ordinary foundations as they're cheap enough to mix and match colours. I think the quality is high and have repeatedly purchased the fairest one with neutral or pink undertones.

If you have the budget, I'd also recommend urban decay naked skin but especially their concealor. I thought Dior foundation was also good but pricey.
