Eco organic deodorant that actually works

Does anyone use an organic deodorant that actually works?! I have tried Earth Conscious, Urtekram deo crystal, Green people women and mens. The GP men's is the best so far but still not brilliant. I have considered making my own but all the recipes I can find are very similar to the Earth Conscious one so I don't expect they'll be any good. Do I just have to give up and use a non-organic one that doesn't end up with me smelling?!

I use Aromaco from Lush which works for me. Some of the reviews recommend using one of their dusting powders on very hot days.

twilightcafe · 07/01/2019 11:19

I use the Dr Organic roll-ons from Holland and Barrett.

thedevilinablackdress · 07/01/2019 11:21

Seconding the Lush Aromaco

Natural deodorant Co.
their 55ml ones are in fully plastic free containers. They are the first natural one I’ve found that works for me, I’m a gardener by trade so sweat a lot 😂

I use pitrok which is ok but doesn't smell of anything.

I have to use a stronger spray for exercising though.

Been using Salt of the Earth deodorant for years, due to concerns about possible links between breast cancer and parabens/ aluminium in deodorants and anti perspirants.
Always feel completely confident of smelling fresh.
Like both the roll on and the spray; from Holland and Barrett or some other health food shops.

I love the Aesop deodorant spray and have used it for years now. Beautiful natural scent.

NannyR · 07/01/2019 11:33

I use a pitrok type crystal. It's not totally chemical free (contains alum) and it doesnt stop you sweating but it's the most effective thing I've tried at keeping me smelling good all day, plus it lasts for years, so works out very cheap and reduces plastic waste.

Fantastic, lots of options to try, thank you Smile

Op are you just looking for an aluminium-free formula?

I second the Aesop recommendation! I've used it for years and I love it. It is pricey though.

The Lush one is excellent. Any of the similar baking soda formulas (some come in a stick or bar, some in a paste) are fantastic, they really really work odour-wise, but you can develop a sensitivity. I used one for a few months before my armpits developed an itchy red rash (though I used the Lush bar for years with no problem). There's something that happens when perspiration mixes with baking soda, it creates a chemical that some people are sensitive to. You can find formulas that are free of baking soda but they don't always work.

I ordered these when I was in the States and they work well for me but not sure if they deliver to the UK: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07532CBJ2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8

I like this one too (again, not sure if it's available here) but it's not quite as effective as the ones I recommended above: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00U7NDXH2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?th=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8

Natural wisdom is quite good.

I would stay far away from lush!!
Unless they have changed the recipe they use bicarbonate of soda.

I sustained severe chemical burns after using their deodorant, I think it has been discontinued now.
It was a cream not a solid one.
The pain was incredible.

Bicarbonate of soda is commonly used in natural deodorants but it is very very harsh.

Raggedyaine · 07/01/2019 16:29

this stuff is fantastic.

Doggydoggydoggy · 07/01/2019 16:31

Also, the natural deorant company recommendation.
Some of theirs contain bicarbonate and the ones that don’t, well I personally didn’t find either one I tried worked well and one smelt quite awful as well, to my nose anyway (the Manuka one)

sleepraptor · 07/01/2019 16:33

Yes aluminium free but also as eco as possible (no palm oil etc) and organic if possible but would choose not-smelling over organic!

I have used the Earth Conscious one for quite a while with no reaction and that contains bicarb so hopefully I'm not sensitive to it.

Thanks again. Will definitely be checking some of these out.

Yeah op, it seems like you'd know immediately if it doesn't agree with you but I used the Lush one for years without any issues, then used a homemade one (which used a small amount of baking soda) for months and then out of the blue I got an itchy red rash. I was convinced it couldn't be my deodorant as I'd been using it for ages. It was so bad I went to the gp, who thought it was a fungal infection, but it cleared up immediately when I changed products. No idea why it can take such a long time to go wrong!
The shame of it is that those are the natural deodorants that are absolutely bulletproof (for me anyway).

bumhead · 07/01/2019 16:54

I went from using Mitchum rollon (about as high strength as you can get) to using Dr Organic Organic tea tree roll on (in glass bottle) which is aluminium, SLS, paraben and alcohol free and works fantastically. I love the smell too. I get it from H & B

thedevilinablackdress · 07/01/2019 19:17

An easy DIY:
DIY:
1tbsp bicarb
4-6tbsp corn flour
2-3tbsp coconut oil (melted)
Few drops essential oil
