Unusual clothing brands

Hello MN

I am drastically in need of a clothing change, especially tops to go with jeans for nights out. I would rather splurge on a few good pieces, and am fed up of the same old brands. Can you recommend any new or unusual brands for me to look at?

I found a couple of brands like Frank Lyman and Joseph Ribkoff recently so that kind of thing perhaps.....

I am 48 with large boobs and a size 12. Happy to look at 'younger' fashion as long as it fits well and is good quality.

Thanks in advance!

I find that websites which are a collective of online boutiques are good to get a wide range of brands that I wouldn’t otherwise have discovered. I like Trouva (it’s fab for homeware as well)

I'm guessing you're not in the UK, OP?

Why not have a look at Matches, Net-a-Porter and Browns online stores for new ideas?

wink1970 · 08/01/2019 08:19

Yay, some answers, thanks both!

I'm in the UK and live near a HUGE shopping centre, but really don't want a wardrobe of Hobbs/Whistles/Reiss/Jaegar anymore, I'm after something a bit different.

Both of these are great suggestions, thanks!

Zalando is quite good too. Lots of different things in one place.

I keep an eye on BrandAlley, who have all sorts of things, some more unusual than others.

blackberrybay · 09/01/2019 07:30

The brands you mentioned as liking are quite, er, classic but for dressy tops look at Rixo, Ganni, Needle and Thread, Sandro, Maje if you want brands which are more current at the moment (I'm not going to mention age, it's an irrelevant red herring). Also NAP, Matches as a PP said, filter by price if you have a budget!

If you're looking for unusual, or rather brands not on the high street for general clothes, have you looked at Me and Em, Winser London. Arket only have a small high street presence but sell very simple well cut clothes in natural fibres which you may like for basics. Brilliant sales.

Desigual?

I like a touch of Rundholz although, if you like colour, it probably won't be your style.

QuaterMiss · 09/01/2019 08:20

Tbf - if you're looking for the MN staple of 'jeans and a nice top for going out' you probably don't actually want 'unusual' designers - just brands unfamiliar to you.

wink1970 · 09/01/2019 11:44

QuarterMiss, you don't know where I go out.... But hey thanks anyway.

Some of these other responses are great, thanks, I really appreciate it.

@blackberrybay thanks for the Rixo suggestion, I have found lots! (my examples of what I like probably weren't good ones).

What about Anthropologie? They have some lovely stuff - different labels. I second NoaNoa, and also Indi & Cold, Numph, Byoung and Part Two are others you might like.

SuePerb · 09/01/2019 12:26

I really like Maje and Sandro. Also Rouge, Ganni, Samsoe & Samsoe. Me & Em too. I got an amazing dress from Rixo for parties.

I have started shopping in a small boutique near me that does lots of Scandi labels - Sessun and Mascob are brands that I've bought recently.

The Outnet is a cheaper place to buy from. Also I second Atterley although the returns process is torturous. Cheaper I like Other Stories and Topshop. I have never managed to get on with Zara although I have a very stylish (60 year old) friend who does buy nice stuff there.

I'm the same age as you - and previously bought alot from Whistles but recently haven't bought anything from there.

Pull and Bear, Bershka and Urban Outfitters,
Mostly aimed at young'uns but you could find some really nice pieces.

@wink1970 you are welcome! Glad to be of help. I love Anthropologie. They also do lovely home wear as well as clothes.

Believability · 10/01/2019 18:59

I absolutely adore Needle & Thread, whoever mentioned that

ParisNext · 10/01/2019 19:00

I suggest Toast (sale on now), Noa Noa and I also love Urban Outfitters but you need to pick your pieces when over age 18!
