Expensive serum and cheap moisturiser?

If you spend money on a high end super serum can you get away with a cheap moisturiser?

I love Nivea moisturiser, but feel that my age now demands some sort of anti age care. I thought that if I could find a super serum for anti aging benefits I wouldn't have to give up my Nivea.

Or do I really need to but them as a pair to work together?

Just use any moisturiser that your skin likes. You definitely don't need to spend big. I use fairly cheap everything and my skin is very happy

Definitely. It's what all the skincare experts recommend. I am using Astral at the moment.

My dermatologist said I didn't need a moisturiser if I used a good serum.

This is what she recommended (it costs a fortune - there's also a slightly less expensive vitamin C version that's good too)

This was what Sali Hughes said at an event I was at recently, spend your money on a good serum and a cheaper moisturiser is fine

The skincueticals products look amazing, but out of my budget!

I'm using Kate Somerville's DermalQuench Liquid Lift serum and then topping it off with a regular (less expensive!) moisturiser.

The serum is so hydrating and has made a real difference to my skin in the 5 weeks or so that I've been using it. My skin doesn't have that tight feeling anymore and feels so hydrated & soft. My lines look softer, too. It's £80, though, which is the only downside!

I've read that it's better to invest in a good serum rather than an expensive mousturiser. It makes sense as a moisturiser is really just acting as an emollient, I guess.
