Help! dry sore patch on scalp!

popped up a couple of days ago. it’s a sore dry patch that’s a bit white and feels rough that’s appeared on my scalp, sore to touch (a bit like when you’ve had hair pins or hair up in one position too long but sorer)
I don’t normally suffer from dandruff or anything so am a bit baffled as to how to treat it or what’s caused it
Any help gratefully appreciated

Could you have developed psoriasis? Mine started on my scalp. I thought I'd burnt myself with straighteners initially.

Might be a fungal problem. Try Nizoral shampoo regularly and see if that helps.

Get yourself some Capasal, it's coal tar medicated shampoo. Smells a bit funky but it's advised if you suffer from dermatitis. Does the patch itch or just sore?

Sounds like psoriasis to me too. See your GP.

It’s a bit itchy sometimes but mainly sore.
I too thought I’d burnt myself at first as it’s that kind of sore - I will try the shampoo and if that doesn’t work book a gp appointment

Reads like what I get regularly - white, sore especially if I comb over or otherwise mess with it, comes in patches. Sometimes it sticks to the very bottom of hair follicles and difficult to clear out.

I know others who the shampoos have worked really well for, but it wasn't doing much for me - I think in part because it partially sticks to my very fine hair and gets mixed in with the sebum there. I find using warm oil on the scalp to help soften it, then comb out with a very fine comb gets most of it and brings relief for a time - I usually do it every month or so. I normally use sweet almond oil though have used a range from jojoba to olive oil in a pinch and a lice comb with a washcloth to clean it when gunk comes out. I've recently started to use an oil cleanser as it's starting to progress to my forehead near my hairline.

I have the same - hairdresser who is a trained Tricologist says mine is stress-related psoriasis. I haven’t been to the GP as they will just prescribe creams which I’m unlikely to use on my scalp. Hairdresser recommended very mild shampoo (double washing to remove product) and coconut oil massaged in the night before washing.

i get this and was also told by the hairdresser it was stress related.
the best thing I can do for it is leave it alone and try to forget about it, luckily I have very thick hair so its not that visible.
Mine usually forms near the hairline, I try to rinse really well there.

Fuzzy I get the sticky feeling too if it's a bit weepy. My doctor prescribes Neutrogena TGel shampoo. Works a treat, very soothing too. Can be bought in Boots for £5. Good luck

Thank you for the tips. mine isn’t flaky as such at the moment but only had it for a few days. I will try some of the things suggested and am trying to ignore it instead of touching it to see if it still hurts when I do!
