Dressing for completely freezing playground...

...while looking vaguely stylish. Please? Any advice? I thought I was going to freeze solid while out with DD yesterday.

I saw this blog ages ago by Esther Coren and while I normally pretty much agree with everything she says, I'm never going to get behind a look that has Uggs and joggers as its foundation. onthespike.com/2018/10/30/warm-2018/

I'm particularly in need of

  • trousers/something for my lower half
  • shoes/boots
  • a coat. My warmest coat is VERY officey (ie I go to work in it) and I could really do with something more casual and fun, but WARM.

I'm quite short.

Please help,
Shivering by the Swings

I have faux fur lined DM Chelsea boots which are good - anything leather soled will be very cold - I think decent socks and proper soles matter more than what the top of the shoe looks like. I also wear a merino vest, cashmere jumper, hidden down gilet and a coat. I’ve leant that too many layers stops the air from being able to get warm so actually feels more cold. Get a wool hat you like.

Uniqlo do some thin heat tech leggings which I wear under jeans if very cold. Or danish wool tights from mama owl are nice with a thick skirt.

Whether it looks stylish, that’s in the eye of the beholder!

I recently got given a Parker. It's shaped, so flattering, and the warmest thing I have ever worn!

Faux fur, hat, coat, cosy leggings by Primark. The faux fur really does keep the wind out. My leather Uggs with sheepskin inners. Warm socks. Gloves a must. Only my nose suffers in weather like this if I wrap up.

jacket

i would go for a boot like ugg boots, as they are warm. an alternative that is cheaper would be the sketchers fur lined boots.

as for trousers, i like these jeggings as they are fleece lined x

Oooh good ideas.

Baroness, where's your coat from?

I don't know exactly as I was given it.
Label says Peter Storm. It's a soft grey, with an elasticated section centre back which nips the waist in, and detachable fur trim on the hood.
And loads of wonderful huge pockets!

I have a faux fur "huff" from here which keeps me warm without totally crushing my curly hair flat. No playground duty these days, but for walking the dog, brilliant. Free postage too IIRC.

I have some fur lined Skechers boots, I think the thick sole helps keep feet warm because it insulates you from the frozen earth more than dressy boots do.

Tanaqui · 04/01/2019 19:00

Peter storm is millets/ blacks own brand and reasonable quality for the price!

This is almost certainly one of the ugliest things you will every buy but it’s one of my all time best buys. I wear jeans with thin leggings underneath if cold, fur lined biker boots or fur lined timberlands, a north face jacket with this horrible fleece underneath and a cashmere hat.

The fleece also goes under a leather biker, a fake fur, a uniqlo fold up puffa and a woollen work coat
