What do you wear if you don't wear jeans?

I'm hoping for some inspiration!

I've always loved jeans since my teens and when I was a SAHM, lived in skinnies and and tops.

These days I work FT in a professional sort of job and have a capsule-ish work wardrobe that I'm happy with (mostly). I do find, however, that outside of work I have kind of gone off jeans and I'm no longer happy with my weekend wardrobe.

I haven't a clue what else to buy. Other trousers... great... but what sort? Dresses... yes, lovely, but aren't they a bit chilly at this time of year? And what do I put on my feet? I'm 5'11 so I try to steer clear of anything with a heel.

(Size 12 and 43 if that helps anyone!)

Size 10-12 at present (need to lose about a stone)and I find jeans Uncomfortable with the extra middle bits so I've been wearing winter a line dresses with leggings and funky wraps or cardigans.

This may sound abit mummy however I buy mine from jo browns and alternative brands as I like to not look mumsy Grin

That with some destroy boots or fly boots seem to be good for me at the moment.

I have a couple of fat face dresses that I layer under with vest tops and they are slightly floatier but still funky and fun

Forgot to say get really good quality non see through leggings.

Marks and spencer do them and they are brilliant. Give me a smoother silhouette and are two pairs for £15.

OneThingAndThenTheNext · 04/01/2019 14:48

Dresses/skirts with thick tights or leggings when it’s cold. Primark do fur lined ones which border on too warm at times!

payperview · 04/01/2019 14:49

Following. I'm a SAHM so smart work attire is no good. The combination of my height and needing to bend down every 5 mins to a LO makes skirts and dresses a no no. i don't know what else there is!

PenguinPandas · 04/01/2019 14:51

I love knitted knee length dresses in winter though don't follow fashion at all!

sleepismysuperpower1 · 04/01/2019 14:55

i do like jeggings, i have a few pairs of the m&s ones.

i also have quite a few tunics, ones like this that i can wear with my jeggings (or leggings depending on how long the tunic is- i get my leggings from here )

as for shoes, i like to wear boots like these in the winter months as they are warm, and then in the summer i wear pumps such as these

i hope this helped a bit x

madmum5811 · 04/01/2019 14:59

Bought two pairs of cosy leggings in Primark, not smart but god they are warm in this weather.

roaringwater · 04/01/2019 15:01

Thank you for these ideas, all very interesting! Need to carve out some time to actually look properly in shops.

Love those Fat Face boots!

I do (she says, modestly) have good legs - is 43 too old for a short skirt?

Short Black tube skirts (£3-£7) from primark and H&M. Superwarm velvet lined leggings from primark. If its really cold i might switch the skirt for a wool one, but the leggings are warmer than jeans anyway. Same tops as with jeans.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 04/01/2019 15:48

Dresses with thick tights and boots:
; ankle or knee.
Jeggings/leggings
Skirts short, long or in between combined with the above? (41/ 8-10).

MsMamaNature · 04/01/2019 16:47

roaringwater regarding the skirt - go for it. You're 43 not 103!

Sitranced · 04/01/2019 17:59

Leggings/fleecy tights wi mini tube skirts or shorts, mostly tweed. Works well with chunky boots.

CountFosco · 04/01/2019 18:04

I do (she says, modestly) have good legs - is 43 too old for a short skirt?

Looks at miniskirt exposing most of my (short and curvy) thigh. Looks at significant birthday cards on shelf. Clears throat.

No, no, 43 is definitely not too old for wearing a miniskirt.

Cocolepew · 04/01/2019 18:07

I like pull on trouser or proper button and zip ones from H&M.
I wear them with trainers.
Atm I have a couple of pairs of tartan checked ones from New Look. I wear with these DMs.

roaringwater · 04/01/2019 18:39

Thank you for reassurance about the (lack of) age limits on short skirts. I love them but realised this Christmas I had bought a strangely familiar skirt from New Look. After some thought, I ascertained this was because I bought pretty much exactly the same skirt in 1994 Wink

Midi pencil skirts and boots, mini skirts with tights and flats, jumper dresses with boots.

I love jeans but am an hourglass and just look much better in skirts/dresses!

Ploppymoodypants · 04/01/2019 18:56

In the theme of short skirts.

I went into urban outfitters and saw a black denim a line skirt with buttons down the front for £40. I went to buy it and realised it’s the exact same one I bought from London urban outfitters for £38 in 1997! I still have the original so dug it out and it still looks good with my doc martens 21 years later !

AgathaF · 04/01/2019 19:17

I'm still wearing mini skirts and dresses at 51. I don't think there's an age limit on them.

Jolonglegs · 04/01/2019 19:23

omg I hope there isn't an age limit on short skirts: I love them and I'm in my 50's..

PlainVanilla · 04/01/2019 19:48

I wear cords or velvet trousers in the winter and cotton 7/8 length trousers in the summer.

I live in my Hush Tina dress at this time of year, I have it in black, wine and green and wear with thick tights and ankle boots. Or over the knee boots when out in then evening! Can’t go wrong!
