How are you actually meant to dry hair with curly girl?

I'll admit, I haven't a clue how to do hair.

I suspect my hair is actually fairly curly and I'd love to make the most of that. I have lots and it's shoulder length.

I sort of tried curly girl but I really, really struggled with the drying aspect. If I wash it in the morning, it is still damp by the evening if I don't use heat. If I plop, it doesn't dry. A defuser takes forever and I'm left with a big frizzy mess.

How on earth am I meant to dry my hair?

On a similar vain, sometimes when I go to bed with damp hair, I wake up with some lovely waves and kinks. What products should I use to maintain those during the day? Mousse seems to be too heavy and hard but oil doesn't hold them. It's unpredictable what my hair looks like in the morning so I can't really plan in advance.

And... can anyone recommend a good hair spray?

I can’t remember where I got mine but my ds’s swimming towel works just as well - it’s one of those sold in sports shops for quick drying / travel.

happy

Not, just dry with a hairdryer and use straighteners if need to. Wearing a hat in winter helps. It definitely doesn't look 'great' but it looks better that not drying it.

I bought an Aquis towel today. It was discounted to £20 so still expensive but I've had my eye on one for a while. Now I've opened the packet it doesn't feel any different to a cheapy one though so we'll see.

I don't even know how old my hairdrier is. It isn't great but still works so it feels wasteful replacing it. I'm hoping it dies soon though!

Dry with a turban towel from Wlko and wear an old fashioned bed hairnet at night.

I use a Boucleme towel, but it is basically T-shirt material. I prefer it to the microfibre one I used before.

@Flannelled any feedback on the towel?

I use a dyson hair dryer , has cut my drying time loads.
But it all depends on what your hair is like and how much product it has in it.
I follow the CG method , got loads of info from instagrammer marisacurls and curlysusie .Watch their how to videos.
It is a ballache trying to find the right products for your hair and I did give up once , but my hair looks shit when I try to wear it straight so started the CG method again and have finally cracked it.

I wash with a sulphate free shampoo or a CG friendly conditioner. I need to use shampoo every few weeks or so as I get build up on my scalp.
I then apply conditioner and comb through in the shower then with head upside down rinse while squishing curls into shape - squish to condish.
So I rinse out 98% of the conditioner and then put in microfibre towel.

I then take it out after 5 minutes and with head upside down I apply curl cream from aveda using praying hands technique.
Then with same technique apply a gel such as devacurl defining gel or a mousse like pantene curl mousse.

I diffuse dry with head upside down- takes 10 minutes with my dyson . I have chin length hair.
I then scrunch out the cast with a few drops of aveda oil in my hands and sometimes I put some clips in the roots for lift and leave in until I have to leave the house.
Finally I loosen all the hair with a fingertip rub of the scalp .

Just realised that I probably didn't need to describe the entire process but I'll leave it incase someone is interested as I know I was desperate to find help.

I had my first ever curly girl haircut today, at The Curl Clinic in Leeds. She used Bouclème products, ending with Curls Redefined gel, and dried it from dripping wet while I leaned forwards. It's the best my hair's ever been, so soft and curly. There was no gel cast.

I understand completely as I have very wavy/curly hair and it is also shoulder length. I normally let it dry naturally (because heat is terrible for you hair) However, when I am going out, this is what I do (explained by my stylist) and I get amazing results!

After I get out of the shower I towel dry my hair. Then I use Devacurl foam (if you cannot buy Devacurl then purchase any foam with a pump)

I then scrunch up sections of my hair with hair clips. I use about 8. If you want your hair to look longer, leave the back untouched and just clip the front and top of your head.

After you do this, use a hairdryer (it doesn't matter which one) Use the blow dryer until your hair is dry.

Remove the clips. Then, use a Devalcurl (or something similar) anti frizzing spray to then ends of your hair.

Run your hands through your hair, if you want it less curly, because it will curl up like crazy!

Look in the mirror and say "Yes!' or "Thank goodness! " Finally!!!

You're done! Grin

Good luck!

I have curly hair , I never wash it in the morning . Too much faff!!... I dry it with my diffuser at night , look on you tube how to dry it . You need to keep the diffuser still, not like blow drying .
Use mousse it your favoured product to tidy up the curls in the morning .
