ELDW too heavy and ELDW Light is too light!

Just that really! I picked up a sample of a Dior something or other at the weekend (not Airflash as it's bring discontinued apparently), but it also seems quite cakey.

I'm looking for medium coverage but don't want something that's going to sit in every pore and make me look like a powdered nana by the end of the day!

Any recommendations?

It Cosmetics CC cream is great and available at Boots now. It has buildable coverage.

I now use Aldi CC cream (the best CC cream I've tried, and I've tried a lot) but had used ELDW for years, previously. I always just added some moisturiser to it to lighten it. Worked very well and you can control how light or heavy you want it to be for each occasion. In the summer, I used to add sunscreen instead of moisturiser.

Im rapidly heading towards 40 and cant really wear foundation anymore - cc or bb is best as it doesnt sit in pores / fine lines. I like the maybelline one which has the added bonus of only being £7.

Another vote for IT cosmetics CC cream. Good coverage but not cakey. I use Charlotte Tilbury finishing powder over my t-zone on top and it's a nice natural look.

That's all interesting - thank you. I've assumes that as I'm getting older (also nearing 40) I need more coverage than a BB or CC cream. I might have to look again!

@Scotty. I've found the opposite to be true. I'm 58 and have found that less is definitely more with makeup in general, especially foundation, which is why I prefer CC cream now.

ScottyTeapot · 03/01/2019 19:16

I'm going to give it a whirl! Thanks all

The ordinary foundations are pretty good and only £6

Sexnotgender · 03/01/2019 19:18

Nars sheer glow is nice without being cakey.

I have all three varieties of ELDW and mix them to make the coverage I want on any particular day. They mix together quite well :)

Isleepinahedgefund · 03/01/2019 20:32

What's your skin type?

Iamneverfull · 03/01/2019 20:37

I Don't think you would like a cc cream, too moveable and not long lasting enough. Dior Airflash has just been relaunched and they are bringing out some very good new foundations in the next few weeks so go back in a few weeks for samples. Dior Nude is a very good inbetween as is Lancome 24hr Teint Idole Ultra Wear. YSL All hours is very good too and probably in between the eldw and eldw light.

I have recently discovered Boots No 7 Airbrush Away foundation. It's very light and silky, easy to blend but the coverage is excellent. It's a good daytime option. Better than a BB or CC cream but still very sheer.

For a slightly more 'made up' look I like the No 7 Lift and Illuminate. It's got great coverage but it doesn't look cakey, heavy or dry. I've spent small fortunes on more expensive brands but these two are hands down the best I've used since my skin started being more erm..mature.

Raven88 · 03/01/2019 20:41

A little off topic but Dior Airflash only contains 20ml of product but it claims to have 70ml, the extra 50ml was the compressed air, I think that's why it's being discontinued.

I use Revlon ColourStay, I struggle to find a match for my skin because I'm pale with yellow undertones, I found a colour match with them after years of buying too light foundation because the next option was too dark for me.

I found that the IT cosmetics CC cream matte oxidised and looked very orange by the end of the day. It also didn’t last on my oily skin.

Best I have found is Bobbi Brown - I like both the skin long wear weightless and the long wear even finish

KirstyAllsoppsFatterTwin · 04/01/2019 07:29

I love Bobbi Brown's BB cream.

ELDW light recently changed formula and I admit it took me a while to get on board with it as the coverage felt less but now I'm loving it. I used to use a foundation brush previously with ELDW Light but the new formula is best applied (IMO) with hands as the heat helps it to blend and makes the product go further for better coverage.
