I'm fat (size 18, big boobs, 5"3) Given up trying to slim down.

And live in the country, I'm ready to move on from joules and look a little more refined... but comfortable and casual -smart level.

Help me out here! No idea what I'm doing...

Slim dark jeans
Le Chameau wellies with dark welly socks
Cashmere sweater with Shoffel gilet
Big fat diamond studs
Ancient black lab than runs away

I have been studying hard Wink

Haha! Well the wellies are out cos I've got fat girl calves. And I'm definitely not adding a lab to mix Grin it my dog IS black, does that count?

I've a gilet but since the weather's taking a sharp turn I'm on the market for a coat. I'm trying to convince myself I like Barbour but I'm just not feeling it. Especially at the cost.

I need somthing thick and warm, pref navy, which doesn't make me look like the Michelin man and won't get damaged by other people's giant jumpy labs! mines an angel

Are you looking for ambling about the lanes or looking smarter in the pub?

Round here the smartest women tend to dress in simple, plain but good quality.
Cashmere is worth it because it's so warm. Great for sweaters, hats and scarves.
Solid but slightly chunky tan boots.
Plain black leather gloves.
My Barbour isn't very warm, I rate North Face for jackets. Even though they're pricey, cost per wear is very good.

An hour or two's muddy dog walking, aside from that my life is working from home and school runs. So really it's for my own self esteem since its only the dog judging meGrin

I too have chunky legs so my instead of wellies are Ryland Leather Boots as they are wide in the leg, warm & waterproof. use them for muddy dog walking but they also clean up alright for supermarket runs or an afternoon in the pub. For £60 (sale price) you can't go wrong.

Another good site is www.newforestclothing.co.uk

I have a waxed jacket from them, okay its not Barbour quality but for the price it does the trick - teamed with said boots, a scarf & skinny jeans/leggings. Oh and the Jack Murphy tweed jackets are great - stylish & v warm.

There, you're good to go!

HCHQ, would you be so kind as to measure the calf width of your boots please? Concerned reviews say they aren't water proof though.

I have a few friends say the rydale ones aren't waterproof. Never owned a pair so can t personally comment but I do love my dublin river boots for walking. Definitely waterproof....mine have been in the sea, through puddles and worn checking stock on the farm etc, also good sole and warm and comfortable. Unsure about calf sizes though I'm sure I read they do a wide version. Love my ariat Windermere for slightly smarter. I do like some of the rydale clothes though for affordable country wear!

Aigle Parkour wellies are wide calf and ridiculously comfy.
Recently ordered some Rydale shirts and a gilet, the sizes were STUPIDLY small so recommend sizing up 1 or 2 sides
