My DD is now 11 and saying that she has hairy legs and wants rid.... she had very dark hair and although I still think its quite young I can see why she would like it gone. So I was wondering if sugaring or waxing is the best way to go as I think Shaving maybe a little difficult and she could cut herself
Thanks

Dd shaves. She likes the olay blades with built in soap bar and they have guards on the blades too. I helped her the first few times

She could try epilating - the hair doesn’t grow back stubbly, and no risk of cutting herself.

DD is 12 and she also uses the Gillette Venus razor heads with the olay soap bar. Really very gentle. She doesn't do her legs yet but she does do her armpits

I also bought her a Philips ladyshave thing for Xmas this year to try when she's ready. At the moment she's used the trimmer attachment to just lightly lessen the hair on her legs but she's blond so you don't really see it much yet.

My DD would NOT cope with waxing or sugaring 😱

Epilating! Shock That’s one way to put her off hair removal for the rest of her life. One of the most painful things I’ve ever experienced!

namethatchild · 01/01/2019 23:06

As pp suggested, I used a lady shave when first started shaving. No risk of cuts and no pain.

DawgLover · 01/01/2019 23:08

I'd actually suggest waxing. If she wakes instead of shaving she'll get into a good cycle and over time the hair will grow back less meaning less upkeep.

I wish I'd started waxing instead of breaking out my dad's razor Blush

I can’t believe people are recommending such painful procedures to an 11 year old!

Shaving with a good quality razor and special soap/ gel is the way to go. Have lots of sympathy for your DD- I too was same!

When I was a young teen I had hair removal mitts from body shop which were almost like very fine sanding paper that you rubbed your legs with. They were great on young fine hair, no pain and couldn't cut yourself with. Don't know if they still exist. I remember my skin was very smooth after as they exfoliated too I guess.

ReaganSomerset · 01/01/2019 23:32

I used those little sandpaper mitts that you rub in circles when I started out. Hard to do any damage with those, and pain free, but if the hair is very coarse she might struggle to get results easily.

Cross post with tinkytonk.

Do depilating creams like Immac still exist? That’s what I used as a very hairy tween/teen before I got used to razors.

I don’t know what the lower age limit to use it is, but Soprano laser is virtually painless and almost permanent.

My DD 11 uses a Wilkinson sword quattro razor for women which we chose together. It came with a suction pad to hang it on the wall above the bath which is useful. The blades are covered by a fine mesh to help avoid cuts. She only needs to shave every 2 weeks or so as her hair grows back quite slowly.
Anything other than shaving at this age is far to much of a pfaff plus DD needs full control of when she needs to shave.
