Work shirts for big boobs?

Hi all, other than Bravissimo, where can I find shirts that fit the blessed of nork? Am 30GG. Can I just get large shirts and ask a tailor to take them in?

Possibly, it depends on what problem you are trying to solve. Too big on the waist or is it gaping? I’m a 36G with a smaller waist and have problem with gaping even when I’ve sized up. I think the problem is often not the amount of fabric in the shirt but the placing of the button holes - so often I see them with button holes above and below the bust ( and not in the centre point ) so you always get a gape. I know M&S do “no peep” shirts with extra buttons to prevent this. Other than that I look for blouses more than shirts since they tend to have a more generous cut and drape a bit more over curves than a stiffer cotton fabrics. A tailor could dart the shirt around the waist if necessary and add press studs / poppers to supplement the buttons

Asos do a 'fuller bust' range that includes a couple of shirts. Not tried them though so unfortunately no idea if they are any good.

Aethelthryth · 01/01/2019 16:44

I've resorted to making my own (32GG). There's little in the shops and what there is is polyester. Alternatively, long sleeved jersey tops can be made more "worklike" with the addition of a smart scarf and/or jacket

Aethelthryth · 01/01/2019 16:47

Sorry, didn't see your question. I don't think buying large and taking in works: the volume for a bust isn't really at the sides- the front of the shirt needs to be properly constructed. For not much more money you could probably have something made which really fits

EatSleepRantRepeat · 01/01/2019 17:29

I was going to say Bravissimo, sorry - their white shirt is the only one that fits me properly (34F = Really Curvy in Bravissimo) and its actually a decent thickness of fabric. All other brands I've tried have still gaped / looked see-through. Watching this thread with interest!

Snowdrop30 · 01/01/2019 17:57

Thanks to all for these really helpful posts. I have ordered a couple of handwashable silk ones from And Other Stories with a placket as the main culprit is gaping between buttons. Will report back!

Alas M and S no longer do no peep shirts, and Bravissimo only do their work shirt in white or black (both of which make me look awful - soft autumn). The models on And Other Stories often wear those shirts over a polo neck, which with smart trousers might work and be warm enough for a chilly Jan?

That looks like a nice choice!

Snowdrop30 · 01/01/2019 18:08

There are some lovely colours: plum, rust, salmon, was tempted to go a bit nuts but let's see if they fit first! I would have preferred something I could chuck in the washing machine and the closest to that looks like Uniqlo's rayon ones. They had some thick cotton flannel ones, which looked warm and possibly smart enough, but stocks are low on those. Let me know anyone who wants links!

Poetry also has some nice round collar silk ones but they look a bit 'boxy' to be flattering on the bigger boobed...

Have you thought of the mens shirt shops (Charles Twyfitt, cannot remember the oother name, sorry).

Fakingit36 · 02/01/2019 11:37

Have a look at the Hugo boss bashina: m.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/boss-bashina-blouse?ID=1369635&pla_country=US&cm_mmc=Google-PLA-ADC--Designer-NA--Boss-_-621384186120USA&CAWELAID=120156070001471341&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=47685657839&CATCI=pla-381659304426&CATARGETID=120156070006654147&cadevice=m&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlZfluoDP3wIVxAOGCh3oZwnuEAQYASABEgJ6ufD_BwE

I am large busted and have given up on normal shirts. I have 2 of these - found easily on eBay so didn’t pay top dollar. Love them! Brilliant idea to have no buttons and zippers at the sides.

Snowdrop30 · 02/01/2019 14:27

Ooh Faking they are lovely! May I ask what boob size you think they would go up to?

KatharinaRosalie · 02/01/2019 14:47

This is a cheap knock off of that Hugo Boss shirt. No buttons and side zipper. I have several, they're not bad. Note they run very small though, you probably need to go up about 2 sizes from your normal one.

Boden silk ones are good, I would size up.

MikeUniformMike · 02/01/2019 16:18

Was it TM Lewin?

Snowdrop30 · 02/01/2019 17:43

Thanks Katharina - the colours of those are v nice. Great to see a change from black and white. I like the olive one especially. Interesting about the Boden ones stars, I saw those and wondered but the colours for this season weren't right for me. I will keep an eye out for next season. Did I read right that they are washable?Smile

starsinyourpies · 03/01/2019 18:10

Yes they have survived my washing machine Smile

Snowdrop30 · 03/01/2019 21:04

Wow - holy grail! Fingers crossed for more colours I like next season...

I hear you proclaim that And Other Stories straight silk shirts fit my weird 30GG frame with no gapping. Got two in different colours and ordered another two. Hurray! And the sale is on!
