Stud earrings for 12 yo DD

12 YO DD has just had ears pierced for xmas. After she's done with the earrings they've used with the gun, I would like to give her a pretty pair. What should I be looking at in terms of avoiding something that's likely to hurt or she's like;y to lose the back of?

I think sterling silver is good for fresh piercings maybe?

Nice cheap ones in Argos though.

Acopyofacopy · 01/01/2019 14:47

Definitely gold or, a bit cheaper, sterling silver. Amazon are surprisingly cheap.

Holidayshopping · 01/01/2019 14:51

Something small and sterling silver. I’ve had some brilliant sets from Argos that have lasted years. Watch amazon that they don’t have really long posts which can be quite uncomfortable.

Ollivander84 · 01/01/2019 15:41

Mantra jewellery has a sale on, Ive just bought some rose earrings for £10

synderella · 01/01/2019 17:24

Andralock earnings from Argos are great and comfy to wear. They have a sort of flick clip at the back instead of a butterfly. They will be easy for her to take on and off too.

ElizabethMainwaring · 01/01/2019 17:30

I had some andralock earrings from Argos and they were absolutely awful. I wore them once and when I removed them they were agony and made the holes bleed. I'm 46 by the way. Worst earrings ever.

ThePortugueseTart · 01/01/2019 17:35

My 14 year old daughters buys lots of pretty little sterling silver earrings in Accessorize.

ATowelAndAPotato · 01/01/2019 17:45

Avoid andralock like the plague! I had a pair when I was young, after I put them in my ear lobes swelled up so much, and got infected, and ended up getting them cut out. Had to let everything heal up and wait a couple of years before getting my ears re-pierced.
Definitely stick with sterling silver, if you don’t fancy Argos, H Samuel usually have some reasonably priced ones.
Or there’s a fab website called Silver by mail

piercing studs are gold.leave them in for at least 6 months or get similar they are designed to make the holes a certain size as they heal.otherwise they can close up very fast if not compltetelly healed.just keep them clean> daily.
after fully healed go for hypoallergenic metals ,or pure sterling silver, titanium and gold work best.
you can get pretty earrings with gold posts/hooks and other gems/metals for the decorative part/

peachypetite · 01/01/2019 17:50

Have a look at diamonique in QVC

BigFatBloomers · 01/01/2019 18:20

Heather Needham, which you can buy directly or on Amazon, has a great range of reasonably priced silver studs. I’ve bought my DD quite a few since she had her ears pierced with no problems.

Oldraver · 01/01/2019 20:08

For a while I would stick with ear piercing studs. As previous poster said they are slightly thicker than general earrings

They can be a bit stiff to get off so just slightly prize open the back and us hit on and off the earring post a few times before she wears it

Look for Caflon on EBay. There is another brand I can't remember the name of

MumUnderTheMoon · 01/01/2019 20:48

Accessorize do lovely sterling silver sets.

Passthecake30 · 01/01/2019 20:50

My dd had hers pierced in July, she wears silver, mainly from fhinds and Hsamuel. She has a couple of pairs from Claire's but the quality doesn't seem as good.

user1471476854 · 01/01/2019 20:53

Take a look at Warren James. Got my 12 year old a gorgeous sterling silver halo pair of earrings from there for £12 for Christmas. They're prettier than my similar Pandora earrings!

adagio · 01/01/2019 21:10

I personally like stuff like blomdahl titanium or certified hypoallergenic earring for everyday wear. Or you can buy replacement piercing studs online (with the thicker posts). I’ve used this lot (I think - it was a couple of years ago and they changed their name!)

wiltingflower · 01/01/2019 21:14

Accessorize do lovely matching sterling silver stud earrings, necklaces and rings for everyday wear.

Smurfybubbles · 01/01/2019 21:17

Claire's Accessories have a sterling silver range which I get my studs from. I buy boring small diamond ones but they have lots of cute ones for her age!

twosoups1972 · 01/01/2019 23:11

I would avoid cheap earrings for some time, healing can take ages. Have a look at Serenity earrings online, they have some pretty titanium studs.

SarfE4sticated · 01/01/2019 23:22

I got my DD's first earrings from Oliver Bonas, they do some really cute studs, love hearts or sausage dogs. I got her some of the slightly more expensive turquoise ones for Christmas and she has had them in for a week now and no problems at all.
