Best serums and moisturisers for sagging skin :'(

Hi,

So I'm a bit of a beauty product sucker and have recently purchased A LOT of products, but have come to the conclusion that non of them really work for my main problem area.

My skin type is normal. Not oily or dry and overall, for 34 and a lover of wine it's in decent nick. However, my issue is definitely my nose to mouth lines, which are slowly, but surely, turning into houndy jowels Sad

I've tried facial exercise, but if anything, I thought my skin looked worse.

My current routine is:

Indeed Labs Reface retinol every other night (using for a month now, can't see a difference)

Cleanse with micellar water, then use Nip and Fab Glycolic pads

I was using P&P Advanced serum, but have recently started using Hado Labo Premium serum, which I have to say, has an odd sticky texture in comparison.

Olay Regenerist SPF 30 moisturiser on top

I don't think any of this is really helping with the sagging, so can anyone recommend something which could slow down this process.... preferably to a halt Grin

TIA

Someone? Anyone?

Should also say that my other issue is dull and dyhydrated skin. Not so much dry, just looks a bit thirsty.

Water. I know it is boring but drink shed loads of water. At least 3 litres a day. Will make a massive difference to your skin. Avoiding alcohol is also a massive plus.

ThePurpleOneIsOverrated · 30/12/2018 14:36

God, thanks. I do try with water. I go through stages where I drink loads, but then I kind of just forget. And alcohol.... I know. I'm sure this is my biggest downfall and with Christmas, I've noticed a big decline in my skin.

Botox.

Seriously.

ThePurpleOneIsOverrated · 30/12/2018 14:42

Botox? Eee I don't think it's for me tbh. Also, isn't that more for the forehead? I thought my problem would be 'fixed' more with fillers...

I’m currently using up a sample of Clarins Night Firming cream and it seems lovely.

Also, started using NuFace, though not sure if it’s doing anything.

MrsAndrewEldritch · 30/12/2018 14:49

Botox can be used on any muscles.

If the lines become deep trenches then yes filler would be needed as botox wont be enough. I have botox done now (im 37) to stop the need for fillers as they arent for me. I know a few people that have had fillers and wouldn't do it again.

Downside is resting bitchy face all the time Grin

I swear by facial oils and a few minutes massaging them in. Clarins Blue Orchid Oil at bed time is my favourite.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 30/12/2018 14:55

bluelady that's interesting about facial oils! Can it be any oil? I got many samples from different brands.

Godotsarrived · 30/12/2018 15:06

Facial oils are great as well actually. I use a simple one I picked up in Waitrose for about 5 quid. There is the Nuxe dry oil as well. About £15 in John Lewis. It is very nice as well... but seriously water. I am amazed at how much less old I look since upping the water.

Bluelady · 30/12/2018 15:08

Any oil will do but they're not all created equal, it's worth getting a few samples to see which you like best. I'm quite old so I like a really unctuous one, dry oils don't do it for me.

championquartz · 30/12/2018 15:12

There ain’t no oil or cream or lotion or potion that’s gonna fix this. Or all the water drinking in the world.

Seriously. This is ageing. Changing of facial fat pads, genetic tendencies etc. If you want to fix this then the big solution is fillers. Botox won’t work for nasolabial lines.

To slow it down? Spf, don’t smoke, eat well, cut down on sugar (incl alcohol). That’s about it.

Bluelady · 30/12/2018 15:15

Massaging with oil does help she whispers quietly

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 30/12/2018 15:20

Oil and massage does help. It won’t stop ageing, of course, and no one expects that.

Google Tanaka massage on YouTube.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 30/12/2018 15:54

champion whilst i agree that ageing us inevitable, OP is 34. Too young to start ageing yet.

championquartz · 30/12/2018 16:25

I know, Mandala. But unfortunately, while oils etc may improve the texture of the skin, they won’t replace the volume loss that OP is describing.

I wish it weren’t so. And I live in hope. But as it stands, there is no product that will replace volume loss. Apart from weight gain, and even then you can’t be guaranteed where the fat will land dagnammit.
