I prefer comfort over style but I really want to look more stylish. Where do I start?

I am early 40s, size 8-10, medium height, dark hair. I have a professional job and usually wear dresses and flat canvas shoes for work, skirts, jeans and jumpers out of work. I don’t wear make up nor heels. My hair is going grey and I get it cut regularly.

I would love to look just a bit more stylish, but to stay comfortable. Any tips? Particularly for shoes?
Another area I find tricky is jumper/cardigan/blazer etc. I can look ok in my ‘base layer’ (dress, or blouse or jumper) but when I get cold I find myself with nothing decent to layer up with.

OP, I like Spanish/Italian shoes. You can walk in them.
I have a few Chie Mihara shoes, they are my staple when it comes to footwear.

I wear dresses. All the time. I don’t have a cardigan that doesn’t make me look mumsy, but I have some from eseoese that are quite thick/cocoon/coat type that I quite like.

I also wear a lot of wraps, I prefer cashmere, in a bold colour like red, electric blue or yellow. The rest of my wardrobe is black/navy or grey.

This is me, I am all about comfort.

Shoes - I wear flats (at 5ft, I could do with the height, but comfort comes first).
I am eyeing up these:

I also have a pair of sports luxe trainers, for when I want to be a little bit more desssed, like these:

For me, accessories, perk up my wardrobe. I don't wear lots of jewellery, but I have lots of hair accessories, like hair bands and clips.
I also wear patterned tights (nothing loud, but ones to perk up a plain wardrobe):

(I don't spend £35, I get them from TK Maxx).

I wear lots of Uniqlo heat tech under my clothes to keep me warm. I also have a jersey blazer which I find as a good go between for the office.

I don’t like cardis or blazers, they look flappy and lumpy on me - I wear an extra layer underneath instead. I like the John Lewis version of Uniqlo Heat-tech. Shoe-wise I never wear heels, but mainly brogues, Chelsea boots and leather trainers at this time of year. (I know Mumsnet doesn’t like this, but I wear black Stan Smiths with opaque tights and skirts/dresses.)

What about cropped wide-legged trousers/culottes? I wear these a lot with a slim fit jumper tucked in or sitting just on the waistband. I put crocheted/patterned tights underneath to avoid a freezing gap. I have some excellent cord pairs from Cos this year, but Topshop have good cheaper versions.

I’m a similar age, and a bit bigger (10/12), 5ft 6.

Thank you. Will look into patterned tights and wraps - do you mean pashmina type things?
