Help! Need to remove pink hair dye!!

TooSkoolForKool · 30/12/2018 09:19

So I decided to dye my blonde ends a hot pink colour with one of those wash in wash out dyes. The box said it would last between 3-5 washes but it's showing no sign of budging! Any tips on how to get it out?? I have to return to work on Wednesday and know they will not approve ConfusedConfused
I'm going to try head and shoulders this morning but any other tips would be great!!

Vosene works a charm as does fairy liquid.

Good luck!

TooSkoolForKool · 30/12/2018 10:27

Find a dye that's a close match to your natural colour and dye over it? That's what I did when I wanted to get fringe back to normal after pink dye. I have light brown/dark blonde hair and that worked ok.

GreenTulips · 30/12/2018 10:30

Sorry this pink seems to last forever!

Friend has washed hers dozens of times and no joy and had to dye her hair

Notquiteagandt · 30/12/2018 10:30

Haha not that I know of. Its medicated anti dandruff shampoo. Was popular in the 90s.

Go for a swim - chlorine will strip it

TooSkoolForKool · 30/12/2018 10:56

@Echobelly I have dark blonde hair however the ends are extremely light due to an ombré and the sun! I really dont want to have to bleach it as trying to grow it long 😩

@Notquiteagandt Lol I just remember my mum using it when I was small as it had tea tree or something in it. I'll pop to the shop and see what I can find

@GreenTulips aww man really!!! I thought it would be safe and just a bit of fun lol! It looks like I'm doomed forever haha 😂

If it's long enough for ombre, I assume it's long enough to tie up.
Could you hide th4 pink ends in a Bun just for work?

Glitterandunicorns · 30/12/2018 11:12

Hi OP, you have a couple of options. The best one to try first is Colour B4 Colour Remover extra strength. You can get it at Boots or Superdrug. Be warned though, it absolutely stinks while you use it. Rinse it off for longer than it says to. If you use this, you'll need to use decent conditioner for a bit afterwards as it leaves your hair a bit dry.

The other option is as a PP has suggested; fairy liquid or head and shoulders. Leave it on your hair for say ten minutes, then rinse it off and see. Repeat if needed.

I've also had great results with Lush's I Love Juicy shampoo (again, leaving it on for ten minutes or so). It has so much fruit in it that it's great for fading dye.

Best of luck!

MrsAndrewEldritch · 30/12/2018 11:16

Its really hard to get rid of it.

You tube bleach bath videos. Basically watered down bleach solution. But its hard to shift (from personal experience!!)

EggbertHeartsTina · 30/12/2018 11:23

I dyed my hair pink just before my holiday. Was meant to last up to 8 washes. As soon as I went in the pool it was gone.

ElfrideSwancourt · 30/12/2018 12:56

Definitely go swimming, that's what I do when I'm bored with my hair colour and fancy a change!

Make sure you really soak your hair and it will shift it.

I tried everything to shift mine. Had to dye over it in end and Even that was a pain.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 30/12/2018 13:45

Paul Mitchell shampoo 2 stripped it out of mine

BluthsFrozenBananas · 30/12/2018 13:46

As pp have said, try going swimming. The more heavily chlorinated the pool the better it’ll strip the dye out.

TooSkoolForKool · 30/12/2018 13:55

Thanks for all the replies, I'll try the head and shoulders and if that fails it's a trip to the pool for me!!

As a last resort I'll try a bleach bath/colour stripper as I have worked really hard to get the condition of my hair back to normal after a previous summer mishap (think lots of bleach and bad highlights)

Fingers crossed!!!

Vit C tablets and some anti-dandruff shampoo.
Crush the tablets (use a blender ) , mix with the shampoo, leave 3-4 hours.
Nothing washed out of my air but the next day I'd gone from mahogancy pink to brown again

MrsAndrewEldritch · 30/12/2018 15:01

Ironically i dyed mine rose pink to get rid of green/blue pastel dye. Which worked (opposite colour) but then got left with a large patch of pale pink on one side across the ends that wouldnt fuck off despite alot of the efforts outlined above. I also tried toning it to zero effect.

I bleach bathed it out in the end but it was a massive pain. Shant be going near any pastel dyes again!

iMum · 30/12/2018 15:05

Vitamin c tablets crushed up with shampoo-works well

Roomba · 30/12/2018 15:16

I've used the Colour B4 Colour Remover several times before. It worked absolutely brilliantly and didn't damage my hair at all, unlike many of the suggestions in this thread! It does smell of rotten eggs though and you have to rinse it for a lot longer than it says on the pack.

TooSkoolForKool · 30/12/2018 16:12

Well so far I have washed it 5 times with head and shoulders and the colour has faded quite a lot!! I'll try it again tomorrow with the Vit C tabs to give it that extra boost 😊
