Gym leggings that are squatproof, can deal with sweat and most importantly, hide a tummy

As the title says.

I’m a size 10 but apple shaped with a tummy. Can anyone recommend anything under about £30 that are dry fit and flatter my tum? Am wondering whether I need to go for high waisted? My current low waisted ones are functional but don’t seem to be doing me any favours.

I went into sweaty Betty - and came out in a hurry! The expense! For H&M value stuff! Though mind you I’ve never spent £70 on one pair of leggings. I’m clearly all wrong.

cheeseismyspiritanimal · 28/12/2018 06:49

I really like ASOS for sports stuff. They sell the branded stuff but also have their own range (4505 I think it's called). I've recently got two of their own sport leggings in the sale and they are very thick and smooth the yummy.

Notwiththeseknees · 28/12/2018 06:54

My squat proof, belly squashing, bum defining best leggings are the Sweaty Betty power leggings. Paw proof and they survived a nasty fall off a kerb. My knee was scraped & bleeding but the leggings were totally unmarked. Expensive at £90, but quite brilliant.

Tummy not yummy 🙈

I have some M&S compression leggings that are very good, high waist and a decent long leg (I'm tall). They were about £30 but not sure they're in stock at the moment. Karrimor running tights from Sports Direct are excellent, and really good value at about £15.

DontRecogniseMyself · 28/12/2018 08:07

Brilliant, thanks everyone. I do agree about the Sweaty Betty cost, it is Shock and I would only buy in the sale.

However, it’s one of the few shops / brands I’ve found that seems to realise that women want exercise clothes that are actually functional that also cover their tummy and bum.

H&M think it's the yoga shape wear ones with tummy control. Amazing. Best leggings ive owned for the price. Around £20.

didireallysaythat · 28/12/2018 08:33

TKMaxx or Sweaty Betty but from eBay

OxanaVorontsova · 28/12/2018 08:35

Asos 4505 are the best I’ve ever worn, high waisted and thick but stretchy

BigFatBloomers · 28/12/2018 08:40

I’ve actually been really impressed with the stuff I bought at Asda. The leggings are better than other much more expensive ones I’ve tried and I have a flattering slightly a-line vest top.

DontRecogniseMyself · 28/12/2018 11:45

Lots of options, thanks everyone.

Queenie ke from Amazon are thick, high waisted and flexible

Great best workout leggings I have

AnnaNimmity · 28/12/2018 12:28

Sweaty Betty workout leggings are the best I've tried. I run and do yoga in mine.

I wear them all day at the moment though so I've kind of justified the expense a little bit....

(none of the good ones are in the sale though - the reversible ones are too thick imo).

PickleSarnie · 28/12/2018 12:32

Hold your nerve with the sweaty betty sale. They usually make multiple reductions. I've got zero gravity leggings for £42 before (reduced from £90)

tubspreciousthings · 28/12/2018 14:03

Another vote for sturdy by design hereSmile

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 28/12/2018 14:06

Under Armour in the sale - I got mine on Asos and will be checking all the post Christmas sales.

I find I need a high-but-not-too-high waist. Too high and it just emphasises the lower bulge and too low I get spill over. Just below belly button seems best.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 28/12/2018 14:07

I haven’t heard of Sturdy By Design but I’m off to check them out! I love brightly patterned ones and the prices look good.

Hezz · 28/12/2018 14:10

Hope you don't mind OP me jumping in, but I'm joining a gym for the first time next week and have no idea what to wear.

Should I buy leggings and a T-shirt? What's dri fit?

Thanks x

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 28/12/2018 14:12

Yeah, I got a very plain back Sweaty Betty hoody for Xmas and it’s got a funny “flap” at the front - amazing for those larger of tummy (me) but extra brilliant for explanding pregnant tummies (also me).

Oliack1417 · 28/12/2018 14:24

Another vote for M&S

DontRecogniseMyself · 28/12/2018 19:50

Not at all Hezz Smile. Dri fit is sweat wicking fabric which draws sweat away from you. I don’t fully understand how it works but basically makes you less likely to end up sweltering in a pool of your own sweat with your clothes sticking to you. The fabric itself stays drier. Less sweat patches although you will still get them. It’s not essential if you are starting out but I find training much easier with it.

You can really wear anything to start with. T shirt and joggers / leggings would be fine. You do need a sports bra and trainers but could get away without proper fitness clothes to start. What I found was that I needed to check my top was long enough. I’m fairly used to exercise but hadn’t done any gym work in public for ages and my running tops and normal tops all flashed my tummy with any movement at all really.

Nike legend have been far and away the best for me

Lucy locket lives are also completely squat proof and the patterns are awesome

They look fab Helspopje. Are they true to size? I’m a 10 in most leggings, would I want a 10 in those?
