Best nail varnish brands to try in 2019

Really need to up my self care game in 2019 and want to start painting my nails regularly (not gel it wrecks my nails).

Have searched some old threads, but they are a few years old. Can you please point me to what nail varnish brands to try. Ideally easily available on the high street, with good prices rather than £12 - £14 a bottle!

Have had the most success with OPI in the past, along with their base and top coat. I sometimes pick up '2 for £10' offer at a beauty supplies place near work, but would like to try some other brands - available colours can be hit and miss.

Thanks so much, would really welcome any ones to look for.

I love OPI and find it lasts well when carefully applied with the base and top coat. I have experimented and don't find cheaper nail varnishes last very long. So watching with interest Grin

Had a good recommendation on the Christmas thread for Nail Polish Direct website- prices are really good on there including for premium brands. I also rate OPI.

I love Butter London, Zoya, OPI, China Glaze, Nails Inc. (The Nails Inc Kensington Top coat is excellent. High shine, quick drying and better than Seche Vite. The base coat in the same range is not great. Orly Bonder base coat is great, as is Mavala ridge filling one. I recommend using base and top coat every time.)

I have recently bought a couple of one pound gel polishes from Primark. I did not expect much but one of the colours drew me in. They are excellent. Better staying power than the more expensive brands. I looked again last week and the colours had changed so they might do fast switches of colours.

Kiko used to have a large range but my local branch seems to have only a limited range now. Still worth checking out for the colours.

I don't rate Chanel. (Sometimes it's nice to splurge on Nars, YSL, Dior, Marc Jacobs) but the nice packaging and fashion forward colours does not necessarily translate to great quality.

Also, Etsy has independent brands which has some unusual offerings.

Sally Hansen is decent quality. Barry M has some good ones if you ignore the gimmicky ones aimed at teenagers. Never tried them, but I have seen Essence polishes mentioned favourably. Cheap and available at Wilkos.

Thanks for the huge response @Sarcelle !

I was just passing a Boots and a sparkly Barry M one caught my eye, so grabbed that. I'm interested to try those Essence ones too when I'm next near a Wilko.

Interesting you rate Nails Inc, read a few bad reviews on here so got put off trying the sample I had.

I think rimmel are good in that they are longer lasting, and I also use Barry M,

Wilko ones are surprisingly good
