Micellar water causing sore eyelids, anyone else suffer this?

I've had terrible contact dermatitis on both eyelids for the last week. I don't normally wear makeup so the only change is that I have been and using Simple micellar water on a cotton pad to remove it.

I've used this micelllar water for ages and only had this problem now. But I've not changed any make up so seems the only answer.

Anyone else had this problem? What do you use to remove make up if you do? Thinking I maybe need some thing oily and gentle.

I'm allergic to everything including Body Shop camomile remover ( as recommended on a previous Mumsnet thread)
I'm also allergic to La Roche Posay and Avene - both brands for sensitive skin. Sad

Clinique eye make up remover cream in a tube is the only one I can use. Sadly it's a very expensive option.

Yes, I'm definitely allergic to LRP and I tried Aveene too and it stung and made my skin tight. I used to use Kiehls products but they are so expensive and I don't have that sort of cash now. Bloody sensitive skin. My eyelids are a lot better today after a lot of intensive moisturising with diprobase.

It's probably just straight almond oil on damp cotton wool.

Glad I've found this as I'd have never thought! My eyelids have been really dry the last few weeks using the pink top garnier and I had no idea why. Thanks ladies!

@GVmama sorry forgot I was on this thread! Almond oil on a damp cotton pad for everyday or some rubbed straight on with my fingers for heavier night out makeup. Warm damp cloth to remove. Sometimes takes a couple of gos but so worth it to be able to...you know, SEE the next day!

SilentShadows · 29/12/2018 19:20

It's a bit old fashioned but I swear by Pond's cold cream

PollyFlinderz · 29/12/2018 19:23

I experienced the same Op and felt as if acid had been thrown at me.

Wore some eye make up today and managed to remove it with diprobase on a couple of cotton wool pads. No stinging, no soreness, no redness so far.

Micellar often causes skin sensitivity after a while.

MeetOnTheSIedge · 30/12/2018 09:29

Both LRP and Garnier did this to me several years ago when they first started being widely available, I've never used micellar cleansers since. I use Ultrabland from Lush removed by warm water and flannel now.

beanaseireann · 30/12/2018 10:25

I've a fringe so almond oil won't work for me as I don't wash my hair every morning and my fringe would get oily as I slept from the almond oil. Sad

Lomondstripe · 30/12/2018 13:50

@beanaseireann it’s rinsed/wiped off - I also have a fringe and it’s never been an issue!

I have this too after using garnier micellar water for years. Eyes are so itchy and dry. I've tried everything changing mascara eye makeup and touché eclat

shayboogie · 21/05/2021 04:25

I have been seeing stuff as well with this micellar water. At first my eyes would get a little irritated but I didn't think anything of it but this last time was different. I used the Hydra Mar Micellar Water infused with Green Tea and Cucumber extract only to be left with a swollen eyelid. My left eyelid was extremely puffy and almost completely shut. It happened overnight! I went to the doctors and they prescribed me an ointment to put topically for 5 days, but let me tell you, it still is not completely gone and it is day 7. I just thank God I did not go blind or something. It has decreased but I am still left with this unflattering bump on my eyelid. There has to be something in this micellar water! DO NOT USE IT!!!

It's funny that I've came across this today, I get it under my eyes and tiday both eyes are dry, puffy and very sore. I've put some bepanthen on them for now, very greasy but contains skin repairing ingredients. What works best for me is a creamy cleanser all over, rubbed into eye make up, removed, then I clean up the eye area with either Simple eye make up remover (clear water one) or Bioderma micellar water with the pink lid. Yesterday I used Garnier with the pink lid. I think that caused the flair up.

Also the oily duel phase eye make up removers are harsh. Super bad for my eyes
