Phillips Lumea

I've been thinking for a while to buy one of these. My concern is I have had IPL treatment before and it didn't really work. Is this likely to work for me?

Initially with the IPL I did notice less regrowing but a few years on it's coming back.

Any advice greatly received before making such a large purchase.

Anyone?

I've never experienced permanent hair removal from salon IPL - always some stragglers come back within 4-5 months. I love my Lumea because it has the same effect - ie long term hair reduction - but you can use it yourself whenever needed to keep hair at bay. I just love mine. It is expensive but it's so much better than having to worry about the expense and embarrassment of a salon

Thank you for replying. So on my legs it really has worked quite well but not on my arms which is my main concern. I need to get this under control before the summer.
I was also looking at the epilator so not sure which to go for.

Does the IPL come with good instructions. Salons obviously say 4 to 6 weeks between treatments but I've heard the home ones you can use every 2 weeks?

I just use when I notice the hair coming back. Especially for facial hair - I zap that right away! I think the week recommendations are based on the average regrowth time. AFAIK it's safe to use frequently.

I use the epilator and its brilliant.

Don't know if you have seen but it is 40%off on amazon at the moment. I have found it pretty good, especially on the face

Sorry to hijack your thread OP but I've been considering buying one too. Just want to check if it's painful or leaves any marks if you use it on your face though? I have PCOS so facial hair is a problem for me!

ronswansonstache · 26/12/2018 18:40

I actually find it less painful than salon IPL. On some skin areas (lower legs, arms) you can barely feel it, places like upper lip and bikini line are more sensitive and you get a brief snapping sensation - a bit like some snapping an elastic band on the skin. I've never experienced any redness or marks. I've also got PCOS so need to keep on top of things!

FlyingUnicorn1 · 26/12/2018 19:28

Thank you I'm going to check out amazon! With 40% off I've got nothing to lose.

If any one else has got reviews on this it would be great though. I also will need to use it for facial hair so don't want to cause problems there!

Really interested to read about this, for those with one already, died or work on dark, coarse facial hair? Or am I right in thinking only soft fair hair? Sorry to hijack OP!

I find I need to use it more frequently than it suggested, it didn’t make much difference to my facial hair until I started using it every week. My hair is now much reduced, and I’m using fortnightly to get rid of the stragglers. It made my skin break out initially, but that has now calmed down and is a price worth paying to get rid of the awful beard. Am going to start using it on body hair after the new year, have done it once or twice, but it’s more time consuming so I need to commit to it.

AltogetherAndrews · 26/12/2018 20:05

Worked on coarse facial hair, but only once I went weekly.

FlyingUnicorn1 · 26/12/2018 21:11

Has anyone used it that has tattoos? I know when I went to the salon I had to cover them up
