Stripy highlights

I got my hair done yesterday and I normally have a balleage (spelling?) but my hairdresser talked me into getting a full head of highlights with two colours.
I specifically said I didn’t want it stripy and she said it wouldn’t be because she’s amazing at foils.
She did my hair and at the time I quite liked it but seeing it in the cold light of day it is sooooo stripey.
She’s closing her shop next week to go freelance and I just can’t go in and ask for her to change it as she was so proud of the effect, and I don’t think she’s done it wrong I just don’t like it.

How can I tone down the stripes? Will it get less stripey as it grows out?

It seems to be the season for bad hair. I really feel your pain. Foils do tend to have a more dramatic effect than bayalage. The fact that they often turn out stripey is probably why bayalage has become so popular. If she used a toner on after taking the foils out that will fade and it might give you a softer result. It sucks but you may just have to get it rectified by somebody else.

No toner Confused

She did it right from the roots too.

I’ll just live with it until it’s grown out enough to get a bayalage done.

The same thing has happened to me this week. She said she would 'scatter' a few highlights to make it look natural but they look stripey to me and so obvious. How are highlights meant to be done to avoid this effect?

It’s so annoying poppy I feel like I look like billy piper from the 90’s

Go back and ask for a slight root drag starting with your base colour so it blends it out from the root and gets rid of the stripe.

Welcome to the stripy club!

I had stripes for a long time (had the same hairdresser for years and I didn’t know any different). In the summer she had to cancel two appointments and I went to someone else. The first thing he said to me was that stripes were so unforgiving. I am 53 and have grey roots. He explained that I needed something softer and that would mean a less harsh regrowth. I loved what he did.

Now last week I went back to my own hairdresser, told her I wanted my hair just the same as it was. What did I end up with? Bloody stripes. I actually plucked up the courage to tell her that it was easier for me to go to the new hairdresser (which it is).

He fit me in tonight between clients and I no longer have stripes. The lad is worth his weight in gold.

There are heaps of videos on YouTube where hairdressers document how they fix stripey foils or bleach blow outs. Take a look at some so you can advise the next hairdresser how you want it fixed. I wouldn't go back, if that's 'amazing' at foils, your hairdresser won't have the skill/patience for a proper fix up.

Calvinsmam · 20/12/2018 23:18

Yeah I’m not going back.
I think she’s just old fashioned because I can see what’s she’s done but I just hate it.

It’ll grow out though it’s only hair.

I actually love the colour at the bottom, it’s just the roots.

I only have a single colour all over but it fades to natural “highlights”. Just have one colour and it will tone down if the correct colour is chosen.

I had my hair highlighted a couple days ago. A mixture of 2 blonde shades. One colour looked blonde the other golden and orange and overall stripey. It also wasn't toned and looked fine in the salon lights.
When I got home I could see the tiger looking stripes Shock
I just put in a silver toner and left it in for 30 mins and it looks lovely now. (Scott Cornwall toner can buy from boots)
If the highlights are blonde it is quite easy to do.
If they are darker can you go back to your hairdresser and ask for a toner so it all blends in better. Or go to another hairdresser and ask for a toner only.
