Slightly glowy (not glittery) primer?

poppym12 · 18/12/2018 20:55

Any recommendations please?

My go to was a Superdrug B range illuminating primer but its been discontinued. I've been into Selfridges and Harvey Nichols and tried Hourglass, Charlotte Tilbury and numerous others but they're too sparkly. I just want one that's got a hint of a subtle sheen, it doesn't have to claim to mattify, pore fill or anything as my skin is fine, it just looks tired.

Also, must be cruelty free.

Not asking for much Grin

I mix one pump of this with my foundation. It's dewy/glowy & definitely not glittery

I quite like becca back-light priming filler and mac strobe cream

Cooella · 18/12/2018 22:04

The loreal one I shared is the silvery 'radiance' one.

Olivecake · 18/12/2018 22:05

Bare minerals prime time (the brightening version) and Becca first light priming filter (the lilac one) are both CF and not sparkly but just subtly glowy

IWannaBeYourFordCortina · 18/12/2018 22:07

Mac Strobe Cream.

Body Shop used to do one in their vitamin c rang, you can still get them on eBay for cheap

user1494670108 · 18/12/2018 22:09

Mac strobe cream for me too

VeniceBitch · 18/12/2018 22:10

Mac strobe cream. It's perfect!

poppym12 · 18/12/2018 22:42

Thanks for the suggestions. Mac and L'Oreal aren't cruelty free brands and I have a horrible feeling that Becca has been sold to someone not cf. I'm not sure who owns Bare Minerals so I'll check that out and keep an eye open for the Body Shop one.

Try the Superdrug Revolution antioxidant superfruit serum primer. Cheap, cruelty free and slight iridescent sheen rather than sparkle.

poppym12 · 18/12/2018 23:19

Iridescent. That's the word Smile. I'll have a look, thanks.

Just a quick heads up OP if you are only looking for cruelty free brands who aren’t owned by a testing parent company, then Hourglass also have to be avoided as their parent company is not cruelty free and does sell in China :( (Unilever)

I know it’s something that’s a totally personal choice, whilst I would prefer to only use 100% Cruelty free owned brands, some of those CF brands I use are owned by parent companies who aren’t yet cruelty free, in the same way that I buy some of my vegan products from meat selling supermarkets. I hope to move towards 100% cruelty free owned brands in the future though, just as I hope more and more companies will stop selling in China.

Smaller brands without a parent company is a great place to start. I’d love to hear if you find something amazing as with my baby due soon I could definitely use something to add back the glow during those new baby days!

Elledorado · 19/12/2018 08:57

Most of them look so SHINY though, esp in pics. I'd prefer a normal matte primer and then add a bit of highlighter on cheekbones ...

AnaViaSalamanca · 19/12/2018 10:42

olivecake just curious, what's wrong with selling in China?

OP I second becca primer.

Olivecake · 19/12/2018 10:55

AnaViaSalamanca Mainland China (excluding Hong Kong I believe) require by law that all cosmetic products sold there are tested on animals, so if a company sells makeup and skincare products there then they have been tested on animals.

olivecake, I didn't know that about Hourglass Shock. Not sure how that slipped through my net. I have a couple of Hourglass products, one of which is really good. Will look for an alternative, thanks.

October 2017 was the acquisition apparently. And it's sodding Unilever of all people Angry. Thank you for the heads up.

I had to laugh. When you mentioned products being CF, my immediate thought was cheeky fuckery! It wasn't until I had read down that I realised you meant cruelty free!

hettie · 20/12/2018 08:22

Trinny London bbf....really subtle glow...smells nice too

pantyclaws · 21/12/2018 23:00

I have one from M&S beauty calendar last year I rate. It is by Pur.

Howaboutthisone · 21/12/2018 23:08

This is interesting OP. I also wonder about this and have considered the Becca and the Hourglass

justilou1 · 21/12/2018 23:21

Barry M has some lovely liquid highlighters you can mix in with whatever primer or foundation you like.

Louisalouise · 21/12/2018 23:26

Jane Iredale is cruelty free, I use the primer and highly recommend it.

poppym12 · 23/12/2018 16:47

Thank you for the recommendations. I called in m & s earlier. They didn't have the Pur one in stock but I did buy an Autograph luminosity primer as it looks and feels very similar to the Superdrug B one I was trying to replace. Some of them are way to siliconey for me. I don't want foundation to stay on ages as I only ever wear a bit of bb cream plus I don't need any pore filling as I haven't got visible pores (unless my eyesight is showing it's age like the rest of me).

I'd forgotten about Jane Iredale so I'll get one of those too as I've been pleased with the few items I've bought previously.
