What did you learn? What products do you now use that you didn't before , what's made a real difference?

I had one ages ago when my friend worked at Trish McEvoy. He did one half of my face and I had to do the other side. I learnt how to do a smokey eye but I just wear minimal make up now.

I had one done by Benefit a couple of years ago. I didn't really like the light coloured eyeshadows they used on me, and I didn't need the 5 or 6 skin products, but I've been using their Porefessional primer and Gimme Brow brow mascara ever since (the brow stuff comes in exactly the right light but not too yellowy shade to darken my naturally orange eyebrows slightly without looking ridiculous).

Blusher (Hourglass, one of the ambient lighting powders in a sort of dusky pink) and eyelash curlers for me. Oh and a different and better foundation. (Hourglass Illusion in Ivory)

I'm still pretty rubbish at make-up, but all of those have made a big difference.

Haven't had a makeover at a counter but learned a ton of stuff off youtube.

I had a makeover at Charlotte Tilbury in Covent Garden. I learned what I’d look like if a skilled drag queen ever had to play me in the film version of my life.

Catherine I'd forgotten that I learnt a budget trick too. It's a sort of V shape on its, like curly brackets, with the point of the V furthest away from the centre of your face. I didn't buy a Benefit blusher but I quite often do it with an existing one and I definitely think it is flattering to my gave shape.

um, face shape.

Grin *Glasgow. Op all I can say is look at the face of the person who is going to do your makeover. Run a mile if they sport scousebrows or if neck and face are different shades. Or you’ll end up like your best trannie self.

IheartNiles - I have found the opposite to be true! Those plastered in make up do a better job than those who aren't - mind you I am no natural beauty!

Glasgow me too! I once had hair pieces applied and looked like Marj Simpson. I have had several makeovers including a top Chanel make up artist and looked absolutely awful. They always make me look like a set of traffic lights, all green, red and orange.

Foxtiger - what do you mean about the v shape? I am being a bit dense today.
