If you’re in your 50’s, what foundation do you use?

I know there’s another foundation thread which I have read but suspect many posters are younger than my 50 something years! So if you are in your fifties, what foundation are you using, what sort of coverage, dewy or not and what other products do you use with it?

I am sick of my foundation sliding off so that come lunchtime, I’m bare cheeked or blotchy! Even with a primer. Maybe I need to use more than just foundation. Am using Bobbi Browne tinted moisturiser atm along with her powder foundation but not really happy with it. Prior to that, multiple repeat purchases of Guerlain Lingerie de Peau.

I’d love a flawless, polished look!

Thanks

Elizabeth Arden flawless finish for me. I use a damp egg shaped sponge rather than the one supplied. What I would say is do not rush to slap the foundation after moisturiser, let it sink in, go brush your teeth or something. I use a liquid blusher, then a big brush to sweep some powder over my face.

I want foundation to be invisible, but really flattering. I’ve used Chanel Vitalumierre for the last 10 years, it’s medium couverage, but incredibly dewy and flattering. But this winter I decided I needed a bit more coverage, so I tested Chanel Perfect Velvet( or something like that), it’s less dewy, but really really flattering with slightly more coverage.
If you go to a Chanel counter and ask about foundations they will give you a good sized tester, enough for a week or more. You might have to prompt them, but they will give you 2 or 3 to try. It’s about £40, but will last you a year or so.
I use over primer but I’ve yet to find one o love since Avon discontinued their brilliant one.

I'm 50 and have just started to use the Revlon Photo Ready Insta Filter,
and I love it .
It has a sponge on top, I usually go over it with a brush. It gives really good coverage without being thick or cakey.
It's easy to build up too, I usually put more on on my dark circles and have stopped using a separate concealer.
I put it on top of a light moisturiser and sometimes a primer.
It's only about a tenner.

MrsSchadenfreude · 14/12/2018 20:21

Bare Minerals Bare Pro. Makes my skin look better - even DH commented. You can build up coverage or just use a little. One pump/drop is enough.

JinglingHellsbells · 14/12/2018 20:38

Dior Star- medium coverage, light-reflecting, can be built up.

Sometimes topped with Bobbi Brown Nude Finish Illuminating Powder.

You might like Clinique Even Better Glow foundation

Clarins Firming one is nice- though doesn't firm of course.

62, and rarely wear foundation. My skin is pretty good, and I take care of it. After menopause, I have noticed that foundation sits on top of skin as a visible film. I use and adore a Sensai gel cream with a tint, that is sheer and adds glow. It blurs but doesn't disguise flaws and is so easy to apply, even in the dark. Sadly it's not easy to buy: Harrods have the only counter, or Allbeauty. Not cheap, but wonderful.

AesopsMables · 14/12/2018 21:01

I swap between Armani Silk (summer) and Chanel Vitalummier (Winter)

Both above are considered light/medium coverage. They last all day provided I start with a good primer (Armani or Hourglass) and finish with concealer and Becca powder.

If my skin breaks out or high colour I switch to higher coverage but sacrifice the lovely dewy finish the Chanel / Armani give.

Shockers · 14/12/2018 21:02

I don’t use foundation, as I don’t like the way it feels on my skin. I do use clarins tinted moisturiser though.

Bluntness100 · 14/12/2018 21:04

I'm 49, nearly 50 and wear Chanel Le teint ultra tenue, makes my skin look flawless and lasts all day.

BIWI · 14/12/2018 21:05

I'm 59 and have never worn it. Hate the feel of it on my face and I genuinely don't understand why women do!

But that probably doesn't help you Grin. Sorry.

AdoraBell · 14/12/2018 21:05

Look for one myself. Unfortunately I don’t live near shops that have a large range for trying them.

mathanxiety · 14/12/2018 21:11

Tarte stick. It's very light and comes in several shades of Daz blue white, all great for me, along with regular skin colours.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 14/12/2018 21:45

I'm late 40s and wear Clarins tinted moisturiser, it's light and glowy.

BestIsWest · 14/12/2018 22:09

55 and Lancôme Teint miracle. It’s very light but I can’t wear anything too heavy.

Doilooklikeatourist · 14/12/2018 22:13

I’m 58 , and I’m using a sample pot of Estée Lauder double wear
I had my face matched (?) And was then given a sample pot ( 10 days worth )
It’s good 😀

102purpleunicorns · 14/12/2018 23:13

Am writing these down and will visit make-up counters tomorrow, thank you.

Reading this, quite a few of you use a powder to set. Just a regular translucent powder? Also, when Guerlain did my make-up, —and— —I— —spent— —an— —absolute— —fortune—, they recommended bronzer but I’ve stopped using that for fear of looking too tanned for our British winter! Think I need a good colour of foundation plus whatever else to finish it off.

I do need a new primer as B Browne sold me a mattifying primer with silicone which doesn’t suit my skin and was a complete waste of money. Have used and got on well with Laura Mercier before so will go back there.

Thanks!

I’m 54 and rarely wear make up
For a special occasion I stick with Olay tinted moisturiser

Destinysdaughter · 14/12/2018 23:41

Currently using Boots No 7 Instant Radiance foundation which is nice.

mathanxiety · 15/12/2018 03:33

The other moisturiser/foundation I use is Bliss Tint'stant. It's tinted but incredibly natural. I bought a shade that I thought would be far too dark for me because it was on sale for a ridiculously low price and it turned out great. It makes me look as if I have been in the sun for maybe half an hour.

It is described as a moisturiser and also a primer and a foundation.

TillyVonMilly · 15/12/2018 09:29

I’m 51, I use No7 stay perfect foundation and use their air brush primer too. I don’t wear foundation on a regular basis but I find it stays put and the colour is spot on. Over the years I’ve tried more foundations that you could shake a stick at, nearly all have been too pink/orange for me.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 15/12/2018 09:47

Hourglass powders are amazing (but pricey). I use Dim Light. SpaceNK do them in travel size if you don't want to commit.

JinglingHellsbells · 15/12/2018 09:58

@102Purpleunicorns

There are loads of good foundations out there, but the trick is to get the right shade. I've seen loads of brands suggested here, but as I'm very pale, and neutral, I found some really yellow.

If you have time, have a really good browse and come home with a lot of testers.

You could look at
Nars- loads of different types- the Sheer Glow is good but for me the shades were too yellow, too pink but you might be lucky.

Clarins

Clinique

Dior

Armani

I don't understand women over 50 who don't use foundation TBH. Most of us need some help. I look like death without make up as I'm pale with under eye purple shadows- family trait! I've got really good skin but it's translucent with hardly any colour.

Envy anyone over 50 who can get away being 'natural'!

LadyLapsang · 15/12/2018 10:22

I am mid 50s and am using Beauty Pie mineral foundation, which gives a great finish If you don't want a mask. I have also used Bobbi Brown serum foundation and Chanel Vitalumiere. I really see a difference with using a primer and love Hourglass powders. My DSis is your age and uses Armani - she looks in her 30s. Good skin is a lot to do with your genes, your diet, alcohol consumption, water intake, sleep, not smoking and sun exposure. I'm sure our skin reflects the fact we never had holidays abroad when we were young, use sunblock and have never smoked.
