If you had to start wardrobe from scratch, where would you start?

My whole wardrobe is really scruffy and worn out and I don't know where to start in updating things. Is it shoes? A nice coat? Matching socks?

Where would you start if you had to start again from scratch I need some inspiration please Smile.

Sapphire - where do you get your t-shirts?

SapphireSeptember · 20/12/2018 00:53

EMP, Grindstore, eBay and Amazon, (and occasionally gigs.) Smile
Cosmic Saint are another website I've found, although I haven't bought anything from there yet.

Definitely a great fitting pair of jeans (or two!) maybe spend a little extra on those as it's beneficial and they last a long time. Maybe a blue denim colour and a black colour.

Echo a good bra! Get fitted and pick a few nice underwear sets out for when you want to feel really good- even though nobody see's it!

Some nice soft comfy undies too for those days when you can't be bothered- same with pj's.

A few basic tee's- Black is my favourite colour to go with.

Nice skirt or two you could use to tuck the tee's into.

Good quality tights- always makes a difference.

A smart work/interview outfit.
(Obviously a few of these if you do have a ft job).

A warm coat.
A fashionable coat.
A light jacket.

:)

Place marking. I need this thread. And I bloody hate clothes shopping!

Deathraystare · 20/12/2018 07:34

I think deffo get undies sorted. Also people always notice your shoes apparently. A cheap pair can ruin an outfit. Must be comfy too. A decent bag especially if you work outside the home but in any case for an evening out this is rather essential I feel. A decent go with everything coat. Then get some staples in - t shirts, tops, jeans, black trousers and some skirts and or dresses.

In the new year I am planning to buy less but better quality stuff. Apart from anything else I will be able to see at a glance what is in my wardrobe!

If I had the money I would book an appointment at Debenhams with a shopper! Good trousers/skirts I would start with as they are year round clothes then tops suitable for winter, updating with summer stuff as appropriate.

morningconstitutional2017 · 20/12/2018 13:08

Good comfortable underwear - you can't look or feel good on the outside if your undies aren't right.
Staples such as plain white tee shirts and other neutrals which go with many items are economical if budgeting is important.

Lynne45 · 20/12/2018 13:19

A pair of jeans, another style of trousers (whatever your preference is), couple of tops, jumper, a dress or two, tights, a good coat and a pair of boots.
I would start with the coat and boots at this time of year.

Undercoverbanana · 20/12/2018 13:22

Agree that a good fitting bra affects your posture, confidence and how you feel and the look of your clothes.

Then jeans, a couple of shirts and tees.

I like a good shift dress in a few bright colours/patterns with black tights and DMs.

Do you wear a a uniform for work?

LiquoriceWheel · 22/12/2018 15:43

Wow, thanks for all the replies! Lots of great advice Smile.

I tried on a bra today and I couldn't believe how well it fit and looked - I've been wearing a too small bra all this time! I can't believe it.

I started this thread because I'm looking for a job and future wardrobe planning is the only light on the horizon. I have an interview this week and I'm really excited about it! I'll buy that damn bra on my first payday if I get it.
