Thinning Hair

I think my hair looks slightly thinner and I have been losing a lot. I am 40, BMI 23 and am a pescatarian. I haven't exercised for a year and have a sit down job.

Any ideas? I have just started taking an iron supplement and tend to take Berocca.

I take 2500mcg Biotin tablets and switched to natural shampoo and conditioner like A'kin.

Would be worth having your thyroid tested (fast for 8-10 hours beforehand and have the test early morning). Also could it be peri-menopause?

Try multivitamins, usually people don't realise the first sign of your body not getting enough of what it needs is hair thinning. Not trying to insult your diet ect just what I have noticed in my years of hairdressing, it may take up to a month to notice a difference. Also another thing and trying not to be insulting either, it could be premenopausal, I think it can last year's before you go through the menopause. If the vitamins don't seem to help then maybe speak to your doctor. Also a sign of stress, maybe that you haven't even realised you're stressed. Hope this helps.

Vegetarian here with thinning hair. I discovered I had a vit D deficiency (on the floor, not just a bit low). Also possibly not far off perimenopause. No other symptoms but 1 yr younger than my mum was.... I think the bit F may have helped.

Vit D 🙄 (Tut autocorrect! )

Biotin

IceniSky · 14/12/2018 09:14

My iron tablets have biotin.

I do drink a lot of caffeine. My 2 litre of water a day habit has become sugar free energy drinks. They actually make me feel relaxed! I do need to switch this out.

Getting a GPs appointment is near impossible unless you say it is an emergency. Otherwise you spend an hour a day calling in at 8 to be told the bookable ones are gone and you should have phoned earlier.

I have paid for a Nuffield in-depth health assessment via work. Hopefully that will be early next year. They so full bloods. Maybe I can mention it there.

Probiotics here. L reuteri plus from Swanson, 3 months in and hair definitely looking thicker to the point a co worker has commented.
Also a thickener shampoo and conditioner.

If you want to try thickening shampoos, avoid ones with silicone. A lot of well known brands have added it to their formula to make hair look glossier and make it feel thicker, when it's actually just a coat of silicone around the hair. Try to look for one that says "silicone free" on the front/back. Also a good massage with some oil on the scalp will stimulate growth, probably best to do at night and wrap up in a t shirt then showered in the morning to avoid oily hair.

I've started taking those Perfectil hair, skin and nails tablets and they are definitely helping. I'm not losing anywhere near as much when washing my hair now.
