Should I go to the doctors about this?

I keep getting spots! Spots on top of scars that have not yet healed.
Only EVER around my chin and jaw area, Never anywhere else on my face or body.

I've read that spots around the jaw are usually hormonal... so should I go and ask for a blood test or something? Clearly somethings going on, I never had spots constantly like this, not even as a teenager.

Is there anything you recommend trying?
I've changed my skin care routine... always have clean pillow cases, tried drinking more water. I even stopped wearing any kind of make up for over 2 months (😱) to see if it would improve but it made NO difference 😭

Help me! I'm too old to be dealing with all these spots... it's really hit my self esteem.

I'd probably try some skincare then go.

What's your skincare routine?

Have u had any threading done recently?

I would recommend you go for a good allergy test. I got one done and found out I was allergic to wheat and eggs. stopped eating these foods and my face came back to life.

.
Also some contraception side effects include acne.

novawinter · 13/12/2018 13:37

Yes go to the doctors. If it's hormonal they will be able to prescribe something to control your hormones. Fancy face washes aren't going to solve this problem and could irritate and make your skin worse.

I have adult acne (hormonal) and used in the past quinoderm facial wash with a topical antibiotic called Zineryt. I was also on the pill which was a god send. I've used various antibiots as well (oxytetracyline, doxycycline, erythromycin) Now I use liz Earle cleanse and polish with a prescription retinoid called differin. I still get spots but this controls them really well.

Thanks all for your advice!

Strange you should mention allergies. I'm actually under investigation for coeliac disease (not an allergy as such) waiting for an endoscopy after my blood test came back positive.
I wonder if gluten could be the cause?...

The dr won't prescribe the pill for me as I have a history of migraines. The mini pill really doesn't agree with me so I'm a bit stuck on the hormonal contraception front.

Sorry, totally misread PP, I thought you were recommending hormonal contraception 🤦‍♀️

Hey, I got this -Duac was the only cream that sorted it out. Nothing non-prescription ever comes close. Your GP can help.

IAmGrootGrootGroot · 13/12/2018 14:46

Thanks @IncaAztec definitely going to give the dr a ring. I'm clearly getting nowhere on my own

I used to get this, eventually I went to the GP who diagnosed folliculitis and gave me topical antibiotics. It was gone in a couple of months and has never come back

SirVixofVixHall · 13/12/2018 17:52

I am coeliac and before i stopped eating gluten my chin in particular came up in what i assumed was rosacea. Red, spotty, but also sensitive.

UpToonGirl · 13/12/2018 19:28

Bit random but you're not taking biotin are you? When I did it really broke me out, took me a while to realise but it was awful at the time, now I think about it, it was last Christmas which is why I ducked out of all the pictures!

If not biotin are you taking any other supplements/vitamins?

christmaschristmaschristmas · 13/12/2018 20:42

@UpToonGirl very common with biotin.

IAmGrootGrootGroot · 13/12/2018 22:21

Thanks everyone, you've given me hope!

@UpToonGirl the only supplement I take is a wellwoman multivitamin (when I remember)

I am taking Biotin high strength and it hasnt affected me that way

Lion8 · 14/12/2018 06:56

Do you drink a lot of cows milk? I was having the exact same problem, tried everything. Was tracking changes to diet and realised I'd been having more milk than before (porage every day). Cows milk can contain hormones which can trigger acne. I switched to almond milk and my skin cleared up in a fortnight. Wish I'd realised a lot sooner.

thedevilinablackdress · 14/12/2018 08:43

How old are you? Could be a peri-menopausal thing.

IAmGrootGrootGroot · 14/12/2018 10:35

Don't drink much cows milk, only in tea & coffee. Don't like dairy produce much. Have the occasional bit of cheese but not a lot.

I'm 30! So I bloody hope it's not peri-menopausal

Go to the doctor.

It's causing scarring and therefore will be considered serious. Sounds like adult acne and will need treatment both to 'cure', and to prevent further scarring. Good luck!

Nutellalovesme · 18/12/2018 03:19

@IAmGrootGrootGroot if you haven't already try tea tree oil

jessstan2 · 18/12/2018 03:54

Do go to your doctor and ask for a referral to a dermatologist who will sort you out.
