Am 50 with really nice skin but which is now showing signs of age especially around the eyes and can look a bit dull at times.
Would like to try retinol but don't have a clue where to start.

Start with The Inkey List or indeed labs resurfacing and apply it a couple of times a week (in the evening). See how you get on. If you have no reaction, gradually increase the number of nights you use it. If you have an adverse reaction, buffer it with Cerave moisturiser until your skin gets used to it and then up the frequency again.

@Truckingonandon
Sorry to jump in on the thread, but would this be suitable for a 35year old?

Truckingonandon · 12/12/2018 23:44

Yup. Just watch how your skin reacts and either crack on or back off a bit depending.

payperview · 13/12/2018 10:01

Thank you. Can it be used on the eye area?

Truckingonandon · 13/12/2018 14:02

Apparently so but I've only ever used it vaguely in the crow's feet region.

Pixi Retinol Tonic. You can get little 100ml bottles to see if you like it, normal size is 250ml. I really like it.

BagelGoesWalking · 13/12/2018 14:12

Start with a low strength Retinoid - the Ordinary Retinoid 2% Emulsion is a good one - start with x2 a week only and increase slowly. Just moisturise/oils after. Daily spf is a must as it makes skin more sensitive.

Don't necessarily expect to peel:flake madly. Just because you don't, it doesn't mean it's not working! If you do, reduce usage and make sure you've got a good enough sunscreen.

BagelGoesWalking · 13/12/2018 14:14

Payperview you have to be really careful around the eyes - it can migrate - and you'd regret it if it got in your eyes! Also, the skin around your eyes is usually more sensitive so definitely start with a really gentle one.

Indeed Labs Retinol Reface is a good start, not too pricey or strong. I started using it a few months ago twice a week with no issues now I use it alternative nights and I think my skins brighter. No avoid the immediate eye area better safe than sorry, I don't put it below my brow or above my lower eye socket but you don't really need it there, you can put some on crows feet just don't get too close

ThePurpleOneIsOverrated · 13/12/2018 14:50

Ooops. I went straight in and used it every night Confused Because it was a low strength (Indeed Labs one) I didn't really you should alternate. That said, I've had no adverse reactions. If anything, my skin looks perhaps a bit duller. Obviously hoping that's temporary.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 13/12/2018 15:12

I've just started using the Inkey List one and La Roche Posey SPF 50 instead of a day cream (ironically the first morning was last Friday before my run when it absolutely pissed it down. I tried to see the funny side whilst I couldn't actually see the sun-less sky for the rain pouring down my face Grin).

I too went straight in and am using it on alternate nights with a bit of night cream on top. So far no adverse effects and although I can't yet see a visible difference my skin feels very smooth and even.

Truckingonandon · 13/12/2018 17:15

Retinol isn't a quick fix. You've gotta be in it for the long haul. You won't wake up in a couple of days time and be transformed.

easielouisie · 13/12/2018 18:46

I only alternate Retinol because I use a BHA the alternating night and don't fancy mixing an acid and Retinol
