Very girly question here - what are lip stains?

That's it really?

You mean temporary ones like the Body Shop one, or permanent/semi permanent ones?

I have a Body Sop lip and cheek stain. I use it under my normal lipstick/blusher.

NKF · 24/06/2007 14:06

I'm not sure. There was a review of them in The Observer (online) and I wasn't sure what they were. Not a lipstick then?

See here:Benetint

twinsetandpearls · 24/06/2007 16:56

THe brush really tickles on the benetint one.

NKF · 24/06/2007 20:36

Thanks. There's a Benefit shop near me. I didn't realise you had to wear lipstick as well.

benitint is shit for the lips but ace on the cheek mixed with high beam

twinsetandpearls · 24/06/2007 21:00

that is how I use it pornstarswife.

Lip Stain is a colour that literally 'stains' your lips, no residue just gives them some colour if you want understated makeup. Or you can gloss over for a more sleek look.

Revlon do an excellent one. Will try and find link.

FWIW - I don't rate Benefit and I am a makeup artist

Menarefrommars · 24/06/2007 21:45

Revlon link}

electra · 25/06/2007 08:46

I have this - benetint on lips looks best when you put clear gloss over the top ime.

JeremyVile · 25/06/2007 08:54

Oooh yeah, the Revlon one is lovely in 'Cherry Tart'.

NKF · 25/06/2007 20:42

Nice colours in the Revlon range. Thank you. So - I know I'm being thick - I like the idea of something that makes my lips look as if they're redder than they really are but without the made up look. I think make up looks a bit awful on hot summer days (whenever they arrive) but for a party, you can feel a bit underdressed without it. Sounds as if lipstains might be the thing.

I started a thread a while back about Lip Stains.

The Body Shop used to do a brilliant one that was just like a felt tip pen.

I've been trawling round the shops today trying to find something similair to no avail. Everything I've seen today has been with a brush, or an applicator, and has been glossy/sticky/wet.

I just want something to enhance my lips without being obvious.

Menarefrommars · 25/06/2007 22:18

The Revlon one has a rollerball applicator which is a bit naff so personally I would apply with a lip brush for better finish

catnip · 26/06/2007 11:13

Oggsfrog Bourjois do a felt tip pen one - it's quite good

catnip · 26/06/2007 11:14

Menarefrommers - what do you rate? Am curious as think benefit is overrated too and am due a make up splurge

Menarefrommars · 26/06/2007 11:30

Depends what you want to spend.

Best are Mac and Bobbi Brown

Middle of the road - Clinique is good and reasonable

Lower end of the market - MaxFactor and Revlon

Depends on your skin type. I have oily skin and use Clarins Multi Matte foundation (think it has been changed now but I still have some of the old left).

If I were you, I would buy a relatively expensive foundation £20-30 and concealer then spend less on the 'accessories'.

IMO, Benefit is thick, greasy and exceptionally expensive for what it is. I don't know any other make up artists that would use/recommend it.

nappyaddict · 26/06/2007 12:08

i like the benefit and urban decay one.

nappyaddict · 26/06/2007 12:10

the benefit one is really thin not thick

nappyaddict · 26/06/2007 12:12

oh thought you were talkin about lip stain

oggsfrog · 26/06/2007 12:12

Thanks Catnip.
I didn't see one yesterday. Do you know what it's actually called?

catnip · 26/06/2007 17:40

Thanks Mennarefrommars - I love Bobbi Brown, think I'll do my splurge there.

Oggsfrog I was in town today and looked for that lipstain on the Bourjois stand - it wasn't there - that's annoying, I bought mine about three months ago, maybe it was a special one off thing. It's a pink felt tip thingy called lip stain pen.

oggsfrog · 26/06/2007 19:51

Bugger.

nappyaddict · 26/06/2007 22:33
