RIP Longchamps Le Pliage...Next?

CocoLoco87 · 07/12/2018 16:20

The zip on my navy Longchamps Le Pliage tote bag has finally given up the ghost after 10 faithful years with me Sad Once the appropriate grieving time has passed Grin what should I go for next?

I'm happy to spend up to £70/80 but ideally not more. I can't decide whether to just get another Longchamps exactly the same style etc or go different.

I'd like a bag I can sling over my shoulder and needs to be big enough to put a few nappies, wipes and snacks in for DC. Any ideas, oh wise women of MN?

Sorry, not really answering your question but I was thinking of asking DH for a Le Pliage for Christmas - would you recommend? Do you think the Longchamps ones are much better quality than the dupes?

Tryingtogetitright · 07/12/2018 16:25

They do personalised ones on the Longchamps website and you can shoose the exact mix of colours you'd like, along with some initials. Not sure how much though.

CocoLoco87 · 07/12/2018 16:55

@Tryingtogetitright i cant comment on the quality of dupes as I don't know. But i have really really loved my Le Pliage and it has lasted so long. I bought it with one of my first paycheques when I started working. £70 for a bag seemed like a huge amount to me then!! I got mine from a Choice store. All I can say is it's stood the test of time, and has been my daily bag for most of the last 10 years. I've used other bags at different times but always go back to it. I spent a small fortune on baby bags too, and yet here I am using my Longchamps as a baby bag!

I saw an acquaintance the other day with a lovely leather bag with long handles so you could sling it over your shoulder. I wasn't keen on the colour of it but I wish I'd asked where it was from! I just don't really have the time to trawl round shops looking.

Have a look at the make 'Kin' in John Lewis.

This looks dull in the photo but is lovely in real life. Probably not what you're after but they have lots of lovely styles. I like a big bag and roomy like Longchamp.

BeaLola · 07/12/2018 17:04

I would get the zip fixed !

I have a Longchamps Le Pliage rucksack & love it - only thing is I wish it came in a larger size & had a key chain string attached so my keys didn't sink to the bottom ! I bought mine about 3 years ago for £29 in John Lewis after Christmas Sale.

As to other "totes" LK Bennett have a rucksack reduced in current sale - not sure if any good.

I find Jigsaw bags in sale good.

Try Zara ?

LagoDiComo · 07/12/2018 19:56

You can't go wrong with a Le Pliage. Maybe a different colour, say grey.

CrystalTits · 07/12/2018 20:04

Get the zip fixed at thehandbagspa.com !

Gonegrey31 · 07/12/2018 20:14

If you want a capacious tote bag that still slips easily over your shoulder, what about a Day Birger Mikkelsen Gwyneth tote bag? I bought mine from TXMax at a great price, but they are online from other sellers. So useful but always looks smart, you can stuff it under an airline seat or fill it with loads of things, and it just keeps its shape. I have a black quilted one and love it, bought my super fashionista dd a khaki one after she kept borrowing mine....

CocoLoco87 · 07/12/2018 20:43

Wow thank you for all the replies and suggestions so far! I like the look of the Day birger at mikkleson one in olive. These are some others that I've been looking at online this afternoon

Replace your Le Pliage! Mine is 8 years old and still going strong. I think they are awesome and the colours are lovely

WrongSideOfHistory · 08/12/2018 00:24

I have the mia tui Jennie bag. It's faux leather (fine by me) and comes in different colours, is huge, has different compartments.

CocoLoco87 · 08/12/2018 10:16

@WrongSideOfHistory i like that in Chestnut!

OP posts:
WrongSideOfHistory · 08/12/2018 10:56

It's a good bag! And comes with a clutch bag etc - I use mine for all the bits and pieces that always end up in the bottom of my bag. I have the cornflower blue that I bought in the spring, it's fab (& there are probably some Christmas offers on)

TSSDNCOP · 08/12/2018 11:24

Get another. I use mine for plane/beach/spa and bloody love it. Would buy another immediate. I have the make up bag too. Love it.

Ladybirdbookworm · 09/12/2018 22:03

I have quite a few . I also have about 6 fakes that my daughter got me from Shanghai. The flap is obviously not good quality leather like the pliages but one of my 'real' ones had me confused as to whether or not it was 'real
I could only tell it was legit because I had left the tag in the inside pocket.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 09/12/2018 22:40

If you love it, can you get the zip repaired?

uk.longchamp.com/faq/repairs

They do their own repairs but if yours is "too worn" try a local cobbler/dressmaker.

GrimDamnFanjo · 10/12/2018 00:34

Can anyone confirm if the corners wear easily? I'm keep wanting to buy a Pillage and then chicken out as I think they'll wear really quickly and look rubbish!

Oly5 · 10/12/2018 06:49

The corners do wear over time, but it took four years for
Mine to start wearing there. I still use it, doesn’t look bad. I think they’re great value

MinesaPinot · 10/12/2018 09:42

Having had several Longchamp lookalikes over the years I finally got a proper Longchamp Le Pliage Neo and, quite honestly, have never looked back. It has been chucked around and used extensively, stuffed under my seat at the footie, as a work bag and a travel bag. I've since bought a couple of the small ones, and the large Neo in Navy or Black is on my Xmas list. Oh, and I've got the travel bag with the cross body strap which I bought in the John Lewis sale last year.

OP, I'd either have the zip fixed, or I'd definitely buy another Longchamp.

EarlyModernParent · 10/12/2018 09:47

My sac pliage has just given up the ghost: after 17 years of heavy use, so I can’t complain. They are made to last.
OP, have you looked at M&S? They often have nice totes.

CocoLoco87 · 10/12/2018 16:43

Thank you for so many responses! I think I'm going to replace it with another Le Pliage Grin I just need to choose a colour. I'd like to go red or olive but I think navy or black go with more outfits. Having just had a navy one, I might be tempted to go black this time.

OP posts:
BeaLola · 11/12/2018 02:24

Thanks for the update.

What about grey ? Slightly different to black or blue but still "safe". Mine from is bottle green . I'm tempted by grey, purple or red !
